Hi Laviana,

I just tried to duplicate your steps but X5 did not crash for me after lowering the opacity on the middle layer and merging down. Maybe someone else can try and see if they can duplicate the crash.

I just installed the PSP X5 trial and updated with the most recent patch.

Problem: The text centering issue is still not fixed.
Enter text and the result is an extra space at the end.
You cannot properly center text on an image.

This problem was called out in X4, maybe even X3.
I am still using X2, and would happily buy X5, but I absolutely must have the ability to work with text seamlessly.

Sorry, all the whiz-bang and pretty colors gets killed by a failure in a fundamental operation.

Well, I saw a lot of bugs in PSP unfortunately.

My favorites is here (all in the Edit mode):

1. New bug for X5: open some 10 files with long names. Little cross for closing image (in the "tabs" between the ruler and toolbar) often is not showing. To close image one should press little right arrow, then cross will showed on the left-moved tab. In the X4 that cross was placed on the fixed place right near that little right arrow, it was very good and comfortable. Now that cross jump over whole tab-line and sometimes disappear. Why did you break this?

2. Turn on the Crop tool. Zoom deep into image, until the scrollers appears. Begin to select area for crop, and drag cursor to the edges of the screen. Image begin to auto-scroll into that direction, it is great. But lines (borders of crop area) is clearing not fully - and there is lot of odd lines is thrashing the screen. Zoom in and out is clearing that thrash lines, but...

3. Crop tool again. Zoom in, until the scrollers appears. Begin to select area and drag cursor to the RIGHT border of the screen. Image auto scroll, but not to the end! Little portion of image still hidden under the scrollbar, and one must drag the horizontal scroller or something else to see right edge of the picture.

4. Try to SaveAs image into subfolder, for example "Folder\Image.jpg". Even when Folder is exists, you get a message "Cannot save. The folder is read-only". In the X2 or earlier, it was OK...

5. In the X3 (if I clearly remember) was introduced new behavior for Mouse-Wheel Zoom. Now image zooms exactly around the point where mouse cursor is placed. I personally don't like it, but maybe for others this is a great thing, ok (it would be great to have a checkbox somewhere in preferences...). But why this rule works only when scrollers on the screen??? When you zoom out, picture is force centered on screen. When one want to zoom to the fragment on the edge of image, it sometimes impossible to do with mouse-wheel! On one "click" of the mouse-wheel, aimed point can jump out of the screen and one should drag the scrollers again. Sometimes it makes me mad :(

6. Crop tool again. After the crop, in the History window there is not only "Crop" entry appears, but also a strange "Crop Fixup". When you made crop, to revert this operation one should press Ctrl-Z twice because of that "fixup". And sometimes this entry is not appears, and one press Ctrl-Z twice and cancel another step... What is that "Crop Fixup" ? What purpose of it? Why should it be in History? (I think you was trying to fix it, and in one of Service Packs of X4 you hid this entry. And Ctrl-Z begun to cancel TWO entry in one press... And in X5 there is "Crop Fixup" again)

This list was bigger, but I must admit that most of it is fixed. Unfortunately, "New bug for..." entry is not empty almost in every release and Service Pack...

X5 on my machine takes almost 2 minutes to boot up and continues to run for almost 5 minutes after shutdown according to the task manager processes tab, while its doing this the 4 cores are at 35-80% CPU usage. Whats up with that? I have cataloging set to off after shut down. X2 which I still have does not do any of this.
This was discovered during beta testing. I reported it to Corel and I believe others have reported it as well. We have asked for an option to check a box to tell it to stop opening at will.
That check box seemed to appear out of nowhere on my system today -- in the lower left hand corner -- I checked it, then closed the Corel Guide window. I have shut down and restarted PaintShop several times since then, and the guide seems to be gone. I've had PSPX5 Ultimate for several days now, and I'll swear the box was not there until today!

I just launched the program and got the guide. There is no check box for me. :( Maybe it will mysteriously appear at some future date. I can only hope as that video is most annoying.

For me the Corel Guide appears every third time I launch X5.
I have reinstalled X5 with SP1 today and don't see any check box on the Corel Guide :(

Here is my text before clicking the Apply button. I've highlighted it so that you can see that there is no extra space at the end of the line:

The same thing happens with Floating text but it only really matters with vector text if you want to center align the text within the bounding box. This was a known bug in X4 and also in X3, I think.

Re: added space at end of text.

I tested again and am not getting that bug here.

Here's a screen cap with text applied, then reselected:

And here's a screen cap as I moved the selected text around the screen.

I checked with both left-justified and center-justified. No difference.

OldRadioGuy, would you mind posting all of your settings in the Tool Options for your text? I know some other PSP users who would shout for joy if there is actually a way to get rid of this text bug. I've tried checking and unchecking some of the settings and the only thing that seems to avoid the problem is to use italic text. With italics, I get what appears to be an equal space on either side of the text but it doesn't come out as close to the bounding box as your screenshot. I take that back. It must have just been the particular font I'd used. I tried another font and I still get the space at the end. LeviFiction once posted a work-around where you add a space at the beginning of your text to even it out but that doesn't always work very well.

Here's an example where I added a space before the text to make it appear to be centered. In this instance it did work effectively.

Bob, do you have PSPX4 on your computer? If so, do you get the extra space in your text in that version? How about X3?

I had another workaround involving scripts. I recreated the alignment and distribution options (replaced them all) and if the selected object was text it converted it to a raster, measured its new bounding box size, converted it back to vector text (via Undo), and then performed the necessary movement. It didn't work very well as I didn't consider all options. So those scripts are abandoned, and it was a silly method anyway.

This, however, is only the second time I've heard someone say they don't experience the bug. The first time was during the X4 beta. So the problem is obviously big enough that a very select few don't see it at all and it's taken them three whole versions so far with no end in sight. Very upsetting when Simone told us it wouldn't be fixed in X4 at all and now to have it in X5 as well. I'm very curious as to the technical side of this issue.

LindaSue, here's a screen cap from PSPX4. So, the bug is present on my system in X4. I was very disappointed with X4 and wound up using it only for repair of old photographs. No text work, so was unaware of this bug in PSPX4.

I never really used X3 because of its speed problems, thus I don't have X3 installed.

Here are my text settings for both versions of PSP. X4 then X5:

Font: Arial - Several used in my tests
Size: 24 - 18 and other sizes used
Units: Points - Points
Font Style: B - B
Alignment: Left Justified - Left Justified, also tested center aligned
Direction: Z -> - Z ->
Anti-alias: Sharp - Sharp
Stroke Width: 1.0 - 1.0
Create as: Vector - Vector
Remember Text: On - On
Line Style: Default - Default
Join: -> - ->
Miter Limit: 10:00 - 10.00
Warp Text: checked - checked
Offset: 0 - 0
Leading: 0.000 - 0.000
Auto Kern: checked - checked
Kerning: 0 - 0
Tracking: 0.000 - 0.000

Thanks for posting your settings, Bob. Obviously changing them won't make any difference since you get the bug in X4 but not in X5 with the same settings.

Hi,

I'm new to PSP and bought X4 Ultimate about a month ago. I recently received an offer from Corel for and upgrade to X5 Ultimate for £17.99, so I've downloaded the trial version to evaluate X5 (updated to SP1).

Anyway, I may be missing something, but I can not seem to open an image from the Adjust tab. Whatever I do, the Open file menu option is greyed out. Very inconvenient as I have to switch back to the other 2 tabs just to open a file!
This behaviour does not happen in X4.
