Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
Hi all,
I just figured out that PSP does not support the existance of xmp files.
This is a must (in this case they are coming from aftershot containing already classication and geodata).
In order to support Corel in integrating those products this should be mandatory that metadata isn't needed to be entered twice.
Regards,
Marek

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
These are the fixes that I've found so far:
1. Tabbed documents bug has been fixed. You can now maximize your images without ending up tabbed.
2. You can now move between Manage, Adjust and Edit without crashing or getting that "improper argument" error message. But, you will still lose some of your toolbar customizations when you go from Manage to Edit.
3. You no longer have to close your open images in Edit mode when you switch to Manage mode.
4. Layer Styles dialog box now allows you to enter numbers manually. In X4 you only had sliders.
5. "My Tray" no longer deletes pictures after you've opened and closed them. It will also restore what you had in My Tray when you close and reopen X5, at least most of the time. It lost 2 out of 4 images one time. X4 empties out the "My Tray" whenever you close the program and deletes them from the tray when you close an image that you've opened in the current session. You have to create a custom Tray if you want to reuse and save images in your tray in X4.
6. The Layer Palette/Drop Shadow bug has been fixed. This was a problem with X3 and X4. If you applied a drop shadow to a promoted background layer with the Drop Shadow dialog box set to "Preview on Image" and then adjusted any of the parameters, you would get a drop shadow for every parameter you changed. That's not happening in X5.
7. Floating text no longer has a vector bounding box around it after applying the text. In X4 you get a bounding box but it's not functional. In X5 floating text has just a selection marquee as expected.

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
And now for the bugs:
1. The default New Image presets can't be deleted via the Resource Manager. I had to browse for them in the X5 folder and manually delete them from Windows. I always clear those out when I get a new version of PSP to make room for my own.
2. The TIF extra thumbnail problem still exists. If you save a TIF file and then open it in another version of PSP, you'll also get a little thumbnail version of the image in your workspace.
3. You can't use the keystroke "Ctrl+C" to copy and paste an image from the X5 workspace into another version of PSP. You have to copy the image via the Edit Menu. X4 doesn't have that issue.
4. The vector text bug hasn't been fixed and it's been around since at least X3, I think. An extra space is added at the end of every line of text which makes it impossible to center align the text inside the bounding box. I can't believe that Corel hasn't fixed this considering how many people have complained about it.

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
LindaSue I tried some backward and forward compatibility tests yesterday with both tiffs and psp files. I never encountered your #2. Maybe it's a systems issue that Corel needs to look at. I run Win 7 on a 64 bit machine.
x5 psp files worked ok on x4.

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
I don't remember who first posted about the TIFF issue. I tried it after reading their complaint and it did the same thing for me in X4 and still does in X5. I'm using Windows XP but I don't recall the operating system of the original poster.brucet wrote:LindaSue I tried some backward and forward compatibility tests yesterday with both tiffs and psp files. UPDATE: I just tried it again and didn't get the extra little image. In fact, I didn't even get it with a TIF saved with X4 tonight either. Go figure.

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
On the TIFF issue, it seems to depend on the image. I tried another one after my last post and got the thumbnail image in both X2 and PSP8 after saving it with X5.
Here is one that's giving me the extra image:

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
In X2, when I zoom into an image, the image redraws centred on my zoom point.
In X5 (and I believe in X4) the redraw is centered on the image centre, and has to be panned to bring the zoom point to screen center.
This becomes really tedious if you are frequently zooming in and out of an image whilst retouching.
I'd like zooming to behave the same way as it did in version X2.

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
That's not quite what I'm seeing with X5. What I zoom in on is in view. It's just not centered in the image window. It's usually slightly up a little from the center but still in view. I only have to pan a little to move it to the center.Brian G wrote:In X2, when I zoom into an image, the image redraws centred on my zoom point.

This is what I see if I zoom in on this flower in X2:
And this is what I see when I do the same thing in X5:
I made sure that I zoomed in on something that wasn't near the center of the image. The original image size was 779x1029. This is what the original looked like:

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
FIXED: The zeros are no longer cut off in the Color Vibrancy dialog box like they were in X4.
NOT FIXED: The numbers are still cut off in the Adjust Gamma Correction dialog box just as they were in X4.

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
How do I get rid of the Corel guide that pops up everytime I start X5? I see no option in the settings of the guide itself or in preferences to disable this. my version is not a trial. X5 on my machine takes almost 2 minutes to boot up and continues to run for almost 5 minutes after shutdown according to the task manager processes tab, while its doing this the 4 cores are at 35-80% CPU usage. Whats up with that? I have cataloging set to off after shut down. X2 which I still have does not do any of this.

Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
This was discovered during beta testing. I reported it to Corel and I believe others have reported it as well. We have asked for an option to check a box to tell it to stop opening at will.ronj2 wrote:How do I get rid of the Corel guide that pops up everytime I start X5? Re: PSPx5 Bugs and Fixes.
I have been spending the weekend and most of today testing the new PSP X5. So far I am so satisfied that I want to buy it.
One little thing though : I was making a banner pic 2600 pix wide and 406 pix high. I had three layers :raster 1 : bottom with a pattern I made. raster 2 : flood filled with a solidt color. layer 3 - a slim sidebar far left in the picture.
I tried to lower opacity on the solid color layer and then merge down. That caused PSP to crash and when I tried again, I just tried to merge visible. That same thing happened andf the second time my work did not resurface : the autosave did not kick in and I lost my work. I know I could just have saved, but it does not remove the problem :
I could not merge after lowering opcaity on the middle layer. I was thinking it is a bug and I will keep up the testing. But I need it to be able to do that before I buy.
I have corel psp X2 Ultimate so far - and would like to get X5 if this can be fixed.
I have installed the SP 1 update for X5 and the extra frames, textures and so on.
Greetings
Laviana
