X5 is almost unusable. It freezes when I drag a jpg into it to work on it - sometimes (most of the time) but I can open the file file and work with it for a while. It seems when I get more than one jpg to work on at a time it will lock - although sometimes it will eventually come back to the image I'm working on. It is very random, but happens way too often. Sorry to whine, just really frustrated and disappointed and don't have any idea what to do. I have thought about getting my money back, but when i go to the support page it tells me my user id does not have an account with it, yet I am looking at my account and it was from that page I went to support.
I have run the restore database program a number of times - is that the same as deleting it?

According to the help files selecting "Restore Database" from the Windows Start Menu is supposed to reset your database, yes. PSP itself has to be shutdown at the time though or it won't have any effect.
If that doesn't work you can always try renaming or deleting the database yourself. It's found in your AppData folder.
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\15.0\Database\imageDB.db
Another thing you might try is turning off the Scratch Disk. Don't know if it'll make any difference in X5 but some people noticed increased performance in X4. With PSP open go to file -> preferences -> General Program Preferences.
Under "Display and Caching" unchceck "Scratch Disk" and restart PSP. See if it's any more stable and responsive.

Re: PSP x5 freezes on opening
I am running PSPX5 on XP and Win 7 Home machines and no freezing at all. Another newbee at lessons I conduct also has it on her machine and again no freezing. I get all the people I am teaching to turn off organiser, and start in Edit mode and stop cataloging and any other extras and so far have avoided all the problems people seem to be complaining about.
Perhaps go back to basics and run the simplest configuration and see if that works OK. Open a windows sample folder on your desktop with copies of images you want to work on and drag and drop them into the Edit workspace. Then use your organiser and see if it works OK for a while then try the other modules.
I suspect all these extras (Adjust, Manage) may still have problems and or they are conflicting with other programs people are running.
By comparing what common programs various freezers are running you may be able to make a short list of the conflictors.
Also I have found that if you get impatient with a slow start up and think you have not double clicked fast enough on an icon and then try to restart it mak cause problems with a double iteration of the program attempting to run. If it does not seem to be starting up, check your Task Manager to see if it is active (Corel Paintshop Pro.exe running in Processes).

Have freeze problem here also.LeviFiction wrote:It's in a hidden folder called AppData.
C:\users\username\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShopPro\ 15.0\ Databases\Imagedb.db
AppData is really hidden here - I don't have anything like the track you specify. And haven't located the APPData by search.
When I go to user name there is no AppData; just a list of things like searches, saved games, my videos, etc.

I'm going to try disabling the Scratch Disk as suggested above to hopefully stop the freezing of X5

MarjV,
Open up the File Explorer and type this into the address bar, or use the Run Command, either works.

OK - now I've set X5 to open in Edit mode.hartpaul wrote:I am running PSPX5 on XP and Win 7 Home machines and no freezing at all.
