Unable to change Menu template or create DVD

On a particular project, when I go to 'SHARE' CREATE DISC' DVD' NEXT' I am unable to change the Menu template. An error message box tells me 'Failed to change menu template'
Program then hangs, if I try to close, I get another error message 'The program has encountered an unspecified error, Contact Corel technical support and send the dump file for analysis' The message goes on to specify an address for the dump file which I can not find.

Other projects work normally, I am able to change menu templates and create DVD discs.

Even with the offending project, I am able to create a Video file without problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated

I cannot explain what is going wrong when you go into the 'Create disc' module - but as you say you can create a good video file have you tried opening up VS but do not import any projects or videos.

With Vs newly opened - go to 'Share >> Create Disc >> DVD' and when the module window opens use the 'Import Media' icons at the top to import the new video file only into the burn module timeline - can you now create your menu and disc ?

Yes, doing it that way, it works fine. I can add and change menu templates and (I presume) I can burn a DVD.

Any idea why this is??

no sorry I have no idea - just a corruption/mismatch in the project somewhere but I cannot pinpoint the problem

I have now found the dump file and sent it to Corel Tech support.

Update on this problem.

Corel Tech advised me to:

1. Manually remove Corel Video Studio Pro X5 (do not use Uninstall) (this was 3 pages of individual deletions and changes to the Registration file)

2. Re-download the Software

3. Create a new Windows Profile

4. Open Windows in Safe mode and re-install Video Studio Pro X5

I did all of this and it took all afternoon, sadly no difference at all, except for the fact that I have lost 2 months worth of media file links.
I contacted Corel Tech to let them know and re-sent the dump file but not had a reply for the last 3 days.

Further update:

Corel Tech now say it's my operating system and I need to reformat my hard disc and re-install Windows 7.

The mind Boggles.

I did not believe Corel Tech's advice to reformat my hard disc and reinstall my operating system and the other 30 or so programmes, so I tried a variation on Brian's idea from an earlier post in this thread.

I opened up Video Studio but did not open a project, instead went straight to 'Share' and imported the the offending .vsp project at that time. No problems, everything worked o/k, I was able to change the menu and burn a DVD.

I shared this information with Corel Tech who now tell me the case is closed.

Hi John

It does appear to be specific to one VSP and the fact that it is open when you Share Create Video File.
Rendering to a video file, or adding the vsp to the burner module seems to work, very strange.

I would suspect something in the timeline or a type of edit you have used, could of course be difficult to identify.
Did you use /add chapter points to the edit timelines, just thinking out loud. if so try removing those then Share Create Disc
