How to edit chapter background and name

Post by chubom »

Dear Sir:

In Menu Templater, you can have a main menu with different chapter, you can edit the background image and music for the Main Menu!

Questions:
1. Can I edit the background image and the music for the chapter page?
2. Can I edit the name of the chapter? I try to edit from the movie, double click the mark and type in new names, but when output, the name is different!

Thanks for your great help!

Best regards,

Yes you can change the background and music for the chapter menu in exactly the same way as you change them in the main menu - when you get to the window where you set up the main window look immediately under the preview window at a small drop down which by default is showing main menu - click on the little downwards arrow and choose the alternative (usually the name of your project) - this will then bring up the chapter menu for editing - just as you did for the main menu.

this is also the screen where you change your chapter titles and chapter image - double click on a chapter title (or right click and choose 'edit') to give the chapter a new name. To change the chapter image right click over the chapter thumbnail and choose "Change this scene thumbnail" to access the image change function.

Hi Chubom

To add to Brians reply.......if you are adding chapter points during editing the project they show as a green triangle at the top of the timeline.
Renaming the chapter points using Settings - Chapter Point Manager will NOT show after Share Create Disc.

You have to name the Chapter Points from the burner module after Share Create Disc as described by Brian.

Dear Sir:

Thanks, I found it, that miss lead me as I name the menu and the Chapter title the same.
I want to make a photo album with different days, and under different days, it has own chapter, any suggestion of how I should make it?
Now what I'm doing is I create the project day by day, each day I use different green mark for different chapter, when doing the output, I add different project so that will become a new title, is that the right way fo doing that?

The problem is, the setup part is only save under the first project, the setup for the output can't load from any project!

Please give me hints what is the best way, thanks!

Besides, this application is much better than pinnacle, I bought the pinnacle and can never work, rendering is slow, no response on forum and computer hang, error come out all the time, that is the reason why I bought this application, your forum is good, qucik response and great help too, thanks so much for all people help and your kindness!

I always feel uncomfortable trying to create chapters in the timeline - so my personal preference is to NOT create chapters with those little green arrows.

My preference to do what you require would be to first make one long project including all the days one after another - just put them all in the timeline do not worry about chapters. when you are happy with the complete project go to "Share >> Create video file" and choose "DVD" if you have all photos you could choose DVD slideshow - but if you have any videos in there just choose DVD. this will make a video file which you will use in a minute.

Now go to 'Share >> Create Disc' - choose DVD and then if there is anything at all in the burn module timeline delete it - now at the top of the module window choose the 'add video file' icon and import your new video into the burner module timeline.

then I would use the Add/Edit chapters option in there to create chapters starting on each individual days - then you could name them as I described above.

That is the way I would do it - other users may have alternative methods.

Dear Sir:

I created the project day by day and I will try to follow your method not to add the green mark and do it in the menu.

I try to output to blu-ray and have below questions:

1. If I choice mpeg setting to (Blu-ray 1920x1080), the file size is 28G, my project use (Blu-ray H264 1920x1080), the size is 23G, which one should I use?
2. How can I save the output, everytime if I close and not burn it, it will automatically save, but when I return, not all my modification is save, I have to redo everything again, again and again!
3. When I try to burn, after some time, error come out, said something like content have problem but don't show where the problem , how can I find out what the problem is? Sorry I can't tranlate the message as is
in Chinese! The first time it said Corel error and send the error to Corel, the program crash, then above error come out when I try again and again.

P.S. my computer is windown7 32bit, i7 with fast CPU and display, I have 500G space in the harddisk.

When you close the burn module to return to the editing section a message pops up saying "saving project" - but after that you MUST go to 'file >> save' and save your project outside of the burning module in order to preserve the changes you have made to the DVD menu. Normally if you do not do the file>>save when you close VideoStudio you will usually get a message - "save changes to *project*" - you should say yes to that - then when you re-open VS your DVD menus should be as you left them..

when you are having a problem burning a DVD you can often get round the problem by going through the process in steps. that is - after editing - create video file - open burn module and delete everything in the timeline - import the new video file you just made - create DVD folders (or iso if for a standard disc) - exit VideoStudio and burn those folders to DVD outside VS.

I notice from your other post you are having some problems as your version of VS is in Chinese on my computer which has Win7 on it - in this folder :-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5\UserGuide are copies of the user guide in various languages - in a similar folder on your computer you should find an English version which may help you.

I have also attached 3 screen grabs which may clarify things for you - the first is the final burn screen for a Blu-ray disc where you can make the folders - the second is for making an .iso of a standard DVD - and the last is the message you get (specific to your project) if you try to close VS without saving the final changes.

Dear Ken:

Everytime I close the burn disc screen, it will automatic save the menu, I quit the program and save, then come back VS to run the output screen again, not everything will save....Will try once again!
For each project, I didn't create the video, I just inset the project file (VSP file), so this is not right? should make the video first?
How to export the video? in which format? as I want to make Bluray disc, if I export with DVD mpeg, the quality will be not as good, right?
Can I export the video and make a file good for bluray? how?

best regrads,

Hi Chubom

There two ways you can burn the disc,
1 / By adding the project file (VSP), the project will convert to a video file, the files are saved to a temporary folder and used to burning the disc. The files are then deleted.
If you have any problems with this method / conversion then use option 2

2 / Convert the edited project to a video file, with the project open in the timelines-- Share Create Video File choosing one of the templates.
Assuming there are no problems in converting/rendering the project, you can play the video File on the PC to check quality.
Use this video file to Add to the burner module
Create the menu
I have to say that i generally use option 2.

When you close the module the program indicates Saving the Project, not particularly true, its transferring the information back to the edit timelines. Now save the project again using File Save or Save As, This should preserve the menu details. I usually name it My Disc Burn.
However different versions of Video Studio save more or less of the info, i think X5 saves the most.

What version are you using?
---------------------------
I do not use HD video so cannot comment on the actual settings you would use to create the BluRay file. However the settings you use should reflect the properties of the video files you are using.
can you provide details of those.

Share Create Video file - Bluray would be the obvious choice, you may need to tweek the settings to match your files.
I am sure one of the HD Guru's will comment on Bluray

chubom, can you tell us if you have a Bluray burner installed on the pc?
Do you have Bluray discs?
Do you have a Bluray DVD Player attached to the TV

Dear Sir:

Your help is great, I'm changing and learning much a lot now!

I agreed to use the second method is better as I may be able to find out problem,
I agreed not to add the green mark is better

I have a bluray disc burner with 6X speed plus a bluray ROM
I have bluray player
I bought the X5 version

Is better to start using the HD as that will be more properly, in Hong Kong, more poeple go for the bluray then DVD!

Still a long way for me to run, until I can burn a bluray and view from the TV, haha, but this application is much much better than the pinnacle of which waste me money to buy!

I try to use the output video in the output area, and plan to add back the chapter later.

I select bluray and 6 options there, should I choice the Bluray H264? I want the best resoultion, which I think is 1920x1080, I can choice with P or without P, so which one I should choice?

With the outfile M2T, can I use that to make menu?
Is this the correct way to make the bluray disc?

Yes, you can choose Blu-Ray H.264, and if you are only making a photo album slideshow, you can choose the 1920 x 1080P option (i.e. the third option in the Blu-Ray list).

Just be aware, though, that the first option will use a much higher resolution (35 Mbps) than any of the AVCHD H.264 options in Video Studio (maximum bitrate of 18 Mbps). Normally, a higher resolution means higher quality, so you could also try that one. But option 3 will still produce an excellent result.

Creating the Blu-Ray menu will use the default Blu-Ray properties during the burning process, so no need to worry about any settings there. It will be excellent, high definition Blu-Ray.
