Still no ARW 2.1 support in AfterShot PRO

Post by Zarastro »

I've been playing with Sony's IDC - partly because I've noticed that most images are being much more better rendered with it, partly because the future of ASP is not clear - and I've noticed that when saving your RAW files inside IDC, we are prompted to convert the ARW file to version 2.1. I've done with some images and voilá, the newly saved files are not recognized anymore by ASP.

On the other hand, either UFRaw, darktable or RawTherapee are able to read and decode the file (even if it does not show on darktable's "light table" screen). Looking through the archives of Bibble Labs' forums, this is an issue that's present since 2009 either for B4 or B5. Dyxum also shows references to this in the beginning of 2009 too.

Perhaps it's just a matter of identifying whether the file has been saved with IDC or not and then point to the right position of the file. Here are the strings that appear on the file saved by IDC:

Code: Select all

SONY DSC
SONY
DSLR-A700
Image Data Suite ver. 3
2012:09:04 13:30:20
0221
0100
2012:07:13 13:40:16
2012:07:13 13:40:16
And here are the strings of an ARW file coming straight from the camera:

Code: Select all

SONY DSC
SONY
DSLR-A700
DSLR-A700 v04
2012:07:13 13:41:07
0221
0100
2012:07:13 13:41:07
2012:07:13 13:41:07
What can be done about it?

TIA
