Re: default photo viewer
You can do it manually for each file type that you want the Photo Viewer to open by default. Or auto-associate all of the file types that a specific program can support.
The easiest way is to go to your Control Panel and select "Default Programs" option. If it's not readily visible you can type "Default Programs" into the search box of the control panel.
Once there select "Set Default Programs" and you'll be presented with a list of programs.
Select "Windows Photo Viewer" from the list. And you'll be presented with 2 options. You can auto-set it to be the default for all file types that the program can open. Or you can specifically select from a list of supported file types. Depending on how much control you want to have over this list.

Re: default photo viewer
The reason is not reading the popup dialog box during installation, asking what file types you want to associate PSP with.'... for some reason it is the default program for opening all of my photos ...'.
