VS Pro X4 very unstable
My previous post described the inability to add text directly to the clip. As this was still unsolved, I had uninstalled and reinstalled X4. In the meantime I upgraded the graphics driver. After re-installing X4, the inability to add text remains but now the X4 becomes very unstable. It plays clips in the project mode for a short time but after 2 or 3 min whenever I click on the time line or anywhere else the monitor blinks several times (flicker) and many times after clicking again, X4 simply disappears (exits).
I am also not able to drag the slider at the bottom more than 1 inch away from the start or from the end. When I drag it, it snaps back to the start of the time line (or the end when dragging from the end) like a rubber band.
Would appreciate any advise and help what I should do. I search the forum for this problem but could not find any previous posting.

Is the Video Card in your profile the new or the old one?
And what is the format of the video in your timeline? If it is by chance AVCHD, then your dual core CPU might not be really up to the job of even playing AVCHD smoothly... That requires at least a decent Core 2 Duo. The Dual Cores are, of course, older than that...

I had done 2 DVD projects with AVCHD .mts files in the past year with the settings and the hardware I have now. Each DVD was of 2 hour duration each. No problems. So, it is not that I start working on .mts files on my current computer.
All of a sudden last week, while working on another video .vsp file of .mts video files, I was not able to add text directly to the clips. Then today, it started erroneously. The monitor blinked intermittently with X4 whenever I click the project. I noticed that another graphics program, such as Solitaire, the monitor also started to blink once in a while. With other non-graphics intensive programs it does not show any problems.
The Intel G33/G31 chipset is the original that came with the computer 2 years ago. The video graphics is integrated on the motherboard.
Do you think the LCD monitor is the culprit (getting bad). I have upgraded the monitor driver already.
Do you believe that inserting a Video Graphics Adapter would help since I do have an open slot on the motherboard?
Hope ypu could give me some more suggestions. Thank you.

Can you tell me if your computer is also using Windows 7 when VS X4 was working for you? Because even if you uprade your monitor, video card adapter, as long as your processor is not strong enough, you will experience this problem.Bimbing wrote:Hi Ken,Ken Berry wrote:Is the Video Card in your profile the new or the old one?

Re: VS Pro X4 very unstable
Yes, The DVD projects using VS X4 (2 projects of 2-hr each) were done on the very same computer (Win 7 Home Premium) without any problems. It was just 7 - 10 days ago that I sterted getting problems. First no text can be aded directly to a clip. double clicking the Preview window didn't do a thing. A few days later the screen behaved strange with the "VideoStudio" text icon on the Task Bar kept rolling. so, the whole thing was unstable. I also noticed that when doing a Regedit (register editor) the screen was blinking uncontrollably, the blinking Regedit screen did not respond to the mouse or keyboard and I had to use Task Manager to close it.Abiel Corel NA wrote:Bimbing wrote:Ken Berry wrote:.

So, yesterday I decided to do a System Repair on the drive where the Windows System files are after I backed-up all my files. Then I removed all toolbar files and disabled many add-ons. after syThese steps resulted in the system becoming stable again. I then re-installed VS X2 (VS 12) and was able to add text (title) directly to video clips. I plan to re-install X4 (14) later tioday and will let you know the result .
Thank you for helping me.

Re: VS Pro X4 very unstable
Hello Ken,
As I noted in my post earlier, I want to let you know what happened after I re-installed X4. The installation proceeded without any problems. However, when I tried to open it, it got to the opening screen ("X4 splash screen") but immediately an error message appeared, saying as follows: I tried 4 - 5 times and every time got the same error.
I did send Corel the dump file and have not received any response yet
I have installed many time VS's and never failed. The original problem I was having was failure to add text to a clip, than it became worst when the system became unstable, now even X4 won't open. The thing is that I was able to re-install X2after the System Repair and everything work with X2. Unfortunately I cannot use X2 because my .VSP files were done with X4 up to the point when it started giving me problems.

Yes, I was able to complete 2 DVD's of 2-hr duration each on this very same computer with Win 7. As a matter of fact I finished 2 .VSP files of 30 min each. The problem started when I was working on 3rd .VSP files.
I did a System Repair on the C: drive with the system files, restoring to June 2011. The re-installed VS X4, now it won't open at all. During the splash screen an error message appeared. I snapped shot the screen as shown in the response to Ken Berry. There is also a Process error associated with this:

Re: VS Pro X4 very unstable
I have had VS Pro X4 installed and functional for 12 months... today I strated getting the same error message and the progrma closes down before intiating.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling VS Pro X4 with SP1 and SP2, made no difference.
I ensured that VS Pro X4 was included in the list of programs for DEP, made no difference.
I am now desperate... Can anyone help?

Re: VS Pro X4 very unstable
Hi
Sorry you are having problems, the Event log means little to me ...........
Can you re name the folder "14.0" to "14.0 old" then try starting the program
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro
If you cannot find this folder then activate Show Hidden Files and Folders from a folders tools-folder options
A new "14"folder will be created re-setting the program to its default state.
Yes I realise that you have re-installed, but not all files are always removed during un-install.

Hi lata,
thanks for replying.
I have tried renaming the folder... made no difference.
Any other ideas?
Is there any data that I can get off the pc that could give you information to help?
