these files cannot be added to this project. Time-lapse

Post by accylen »

Hello everyone.

Just installed my free trial for video studio pro 5 and I'm attempting to creat a time-lapse video using 200 jpeg images taken from my dslr camera.

After doing the following;
Click File> Insert Media File to Timeline> Insert Photo for time-lapse/strobe and browsing for my images I get the following message
"These files cannot be added to this project
These files may be of unknown format
The computer does not have enough memory
Or the file is copyright protected"

Each images is about 750kb in size and are jpegs.

I'm using XP home.

Can anyone plz advise

Hi

What are you trying to do, create a video using 200 images.
I do not think you need the timelapse option..........

Go to Timeline view of the main editor.
Right click the timeline and select insert photo, browse and insert your images.
with all clips selected in the timeline, right click and choose "Change photo Duration"
can be set to one frame.

Play the project

note --To select mutiple adjacent images use Shift+click
Ctrl + A may also work

Thanks for that Trevor, that is much quicker than the way I was doing it.

Still having the same problem though. When I select the images and then click "open" it attemps to load them and I get the message;

"These files cannot be added to this project
These files may be of unknown format
The computer does not have enough memory
Or the file is copyright protected"

When I select an image asto insert nothing appears in the "File infomation" box, i'm sure I should be seeing a preview of the image selected. I've tried "file of type" All Formats and All Files.

Hi

Not sure how you are trying to insert the images to the timeline.

If you are using Windows Explorer, drag and drop the images.

Otherwise and the easiest way..
Open Video Studio--right click the timeline and select Insert Photo
Are you saying doing the above does not work?

The options from the file menu to Open or Open Project is for just that opening a VSP, a project file.

Hi Trevor

Yes the above doesnt work.
I open videostudio and right click on the timeline and select "Insert Photo", I then get a "Browse photo" pop-up box. From there I go and select my jpeg images and click "Open" After I click "Open" it is then that I get the message on my timeline

"These files cannot be added to this project
These files may be of unknown format
The computer does not have enough memory

This can be a problem with the photos. Can you provide a sample set of photos that when you insert them to the program via File> Insert Media File to Timeline> Insert Photo for time-lapse/strobe... gives you the error message. You can provide atleast 10 files, so that forum members can also test them as well.

Hi

very strange.
I notice you have altered the workstations layout, this should not affect things, but have you tried resetting the layout to its default. Press F7, I assume you have saved the custom layout.
----------------------
Also your pc spec shows your system to be using "B" drive is this correct?
--------------------
I assume you have the same error trying to import to the library and that Drag and Drop is the same.?
--------------------
If its an image problem, then yes a sample would be useful, I assume you have the error when importing a single image?

The library contains 28 images all Jpeg types, do you have problems accessing those.?
----------------------
can you manually update Direct X, this has been known to cure strange issues that the auto updates do not address.
In three parts
1 / Download file
2 / Run file to extract content, (create a new folder for these files)
3 / Run DXSETUP.exe

It also looks as though you have re-named all of your files using some form of bulk renaming process - other users have reported problems with importing files after using a bulk re-name - do you have any photos which you have not renamed that you could try importing - maybe from your back-ups.

Hi Brian

I think accylen has used windows explorer to batch re-name, thats the sort of format you would get.
Only one problem with the first image using mal.jpeg--without the brackets, puts that image out of order.

I have used that re-name option without problems, but guess its worth trying to import the originals.

I did a few tests years ago and VS struggled with very long file names, shorter ones seemed to import more quickly. not tried with the latest versions.

Hello everyone, sorry for the delay in replying but we went away for the week.

Yes I had re-named the images using explorer but everything is fine now.

When I got back I read your posts then manually updated my Direct X as suggested.
I opened up VideoStudio and presto, it worked. I can now insert my images without any problems, brilliant. :D

I don’t understand what Direct X does but hey, it did the trick.
I assume you have the error when importing a single image?
Yes I was getting the error messages while inserting single and multiple images.
can provide at least 10 files, so that forum members can also test them as well.
I can't upload an image because the forums attachment limit is 256kb and my images are around 756kb each.
VideoSudio doesnt seem to be having problems with my image sizes, they are loading just fine.
your pc spec shows your system to be using "B" drive is this correct?
My pc spec should be “C” Drive so I’ll edit that now.

You've been great, many thanks for your help.
Regards
Len
