Where is NO COLOR in the Pspx4 materials pallet?

Post by RoseW »

Coming from Pspx2 into Pspx4 this week.
Applied a text title to a border on an image yesterday.
Accustomed to having just a background colour for plain text.
Went to click off the foreground colour and could not find a choice for NO COLOUR in the foreground
Also
No text box.....what happened to the text box?

What is the procedure for plain text with a single colour now in Pspx4

Found a link in another post for the PDF help file which identified the location of Transparent ....
Somehow that didn't jump out at me yesterday.

But moving the text after typing it doesn' t seem to be available ???

Pretty much the same as it's always been. Yes, there are big changes but a lot of the base functionality is still there.

If you want the textbox, some do some don't, hold down "Shift" before clicking to create text. It'll bring up the text box. Of course "on canvas" editing of text has been a long awaited and requested feature in PSP.

This is the second time I've heard "moving text after typing it" but I have no idea what you mean. So long as you create the text as a vector, once you apply the changes (using the check box on the tool options palette) you can grab and move the text anywhere you want. I have never seen this act any differently.

No Color?? I think you must have had two color text because you have your Stroke Width set to a non zero value.
It is on the line wher it says Allignment, Direction, Anti Alias and Stroke width.

In your Materials palette the top large colour box is the Stroke color and the lower one is the Fill color.
Under each of those there are three buttons. The third (rightmost button) sets transparency.
So you can have
1) a stroke color set to transparent and have the text made of just the fill color, or
2) have the stroke color visible and have the fill part of the text transparent.
3 You can also have the stroke width set to 0 and have no stroke at all.

I did some 'practicing' today with a 'new' little background and applied text.
THEN I figured out that the Vector box was similar to or like the previous text box. Since I was using a default new image size ...about 300 x 600 the borders were distinct. An AHA moment went on in my brain....and I grabbed edges to move the block of text around.
I don't recall having to use the 'apply' button before moving the block of text around but then some activities become automatic <grin> i.e. non thinking.

For some reason I expected the No Color control to be in the list when I clicked on Foreground. I don't have Pspx2 here to compare but it was another automatic click action on my part.
When icon configuration changes it takes a bit of brain rearrangement to translate new symbols <grin>

Fortunately resize and jpg optimization has remained the same and PspX4 receives a tif from Lightroom with no complaints.
PspX2 was beginning to lag and have trouble receiving dngs exported as a tif to be opened immediately in Psp so that the was the main reason I took on PspX4

Thanks for all the input.
