Problems adding title to a clip

Post by Bimbing »

Hello, I am using VS Pro X4 for quite some time. All of a sudden today, I was not able to "add a title" to a clip. It was working fine yesterday. Whenever I clicked "T" for "add a title to a clip", it switches from "Clip" to "Project" and although the "Double click here to add a title" was shown obviously nothing happened because it was in "Project" view.

After Brian told me that it always go from Clip to Project when clicking "T" or double clicking the Title track, that seems to be normal.. After using VS since VS 9, I have not noticed that before (if something works one usually does not notice anything...).

After re-installing VS Pro X4, per instructions in corel.force.com "How to remove X4 manually", and reinstall it, I am still not able to add text to the clip. Clicking "T" or double clicking the Title track still gave me the "Double click here to add title " notice in the preview window, but nothing happened upon double clicking the Preview window.

Out of curiosity I also ran VS X2 ,that is also in my computer, and with X2 the same problem exists --> no text can be added to a clip.

Back to VS Pro X4, however, I am able to drag a VS pre-set Title clip (Lorem Ipsum) to the Title track and then modify the text. So, if I could not get the problem solved of adding text directly to a clip, I have to add text the long way through the preset Lorem Ipsum clips.

Would appreciate any advises. Thank you.

As far as I recall VideoStudio has always switched from 'Clip' to 'Project' when you want to insert titles - I have just fired up my copy of X4 to check and yes sure enough if in clip mode it switches to project when you click on the 'T' to allow the title to be added, so it is not that which is preventing you adding titles.

Is there anything already in the title track where you put the cursor (new titles are inserted wherever the cursor is) or is there not enough space in the title track to insert a title of your default length.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for your comments.
I have used VS from version 9 to the current X4 and since it has not given me any problems before, I have not noticed that when you click T it switches from Clip to Project. Only when one gets problems one starts to notice it...
No, the title track is empty. When I tried to add additional text to the title already there I was able to so that without difficulty.
I do notice that the slider at the bottom of the tracks is behaving strange. I could only pull to about an inch and it retracts to the beginning. The same happens when I try the slider from the end of the project.
Do you think I should uninstall and re-install it X4?

I am not a great believer in re-installing any programme unless it has pretty catastrophic problems - and I wouldn't class this as catastrophic - yet.

Does this happen in other projects - could you perhaps just try a new clean project and grab a few videos (not the ones in your current project) and try adding titles to that and see if you still have the problem

Brian, I started a new project then placed a video clip from an old project. Result was the same: clicking the "T" showed the "Double click here..." but double clicking did not do anything. Also after double clicking the title track.
I also placed a VS X4 Graphic colored screen and clicking both "T" or double clicking the title track nothing happened when double clicking the Preview screen.

I also returned the setting to Factory default... same result.

Then I ran X2 and grab one of the VS X2 sample clip. The same happened.. no text can be added in VS X2.

I do not know what to do next.. Hope there is a solution.
Thank you.

have you or your computer changed anything on your system recently - for instance changed or removed Quicktime or any similar programmes

Thanks, Brian.
I did Windows 7 recommended updates yesterday. This morning I have uninstalled the updates but the problem still exists. I did a search for Quicktime and the last time it was modified was 05/18/12. I noticed also Adobe Flash Player was updated 08/15/12 but apparently this does not affect VS because for the next 2 weeks X4 was working fine.

I dragged a VS Preset Title clip (Lorem Ipsum clips) to the Title track and I was able to edit the text Lorem Ipsum and all the attributes (placing, font, etc.) work on the edited text.
So, if I could not add text direct to a clip I may have to do it the long was through the Lorem Ipsum clip.... I hoope I do not have to do this long way......
