Multiple Videos & Chapters

Post by vs95 »

The last version of VS I've used was V10. Just installed X5. I'm making a disk that has 2 videos in it. I want 2 menu options, one for each video file. The way I used to do it was to create 2 projects. In each project I'd edit the video as I need. I'd then create a 3rd project and add both projects with the edited videos in them.

Is this still the way to create a disk with multiple videos in it or is there a better way? If I do it this way will I get any audio sync problems? Had that with older versions.

Also, can I edit 2 videos in the same project without having them both in the same timeline?

Thanks

If all you want is a menu with just two selections on it , one for each video then there is no need to make the third project.

When you have finished editing project one go to Share >> create video file and make a DVD compliant mpeg video - save the project and empty the timeline.

Do exactly the same with project two - giving the video file a different name.

Go to Share >> create disc and if there is a video in the timeline there delete it - import your two new video files and when you then go next to create your menu choose a a template with at least two thumbnails/text options and you will have a menu which allows you to select either video.

not at all sure what your final question is about - most projects have numerous video in them - all in sequence in the timeline - so if that's the question then yes you can edit two or more videos in the timeline at the same time.

I used to render each video as well then added the edited files to a different project. That was redundant though when you could do it all at the same time just once. In addition now you'd have 4 video files taking up space on your hd instead of just 2. You could really fill up a hard drive with lots of 4+gig files. I found long ago it's better to have the original master file than a rendered edited one. Been using Nero after VS10 and they have that handled as their std way of creating a video. You add each video file to the project first off. Click on each one to edit each one individually with each having it's own timeline. Create the menu(s) then create the disk or folders. One render, one set of master files. Thought since VS10 to X5 they may have added that feature. From what you said, it's still the same.

Also, VS 10 and before I found creating the edited files sometimes gave audio sync problems. Adding multiple projects to a project also did it. Ulead's forums had a sticky just for audio sync problems. Nero didn't have the audio sync problems. Their latest version is loaded with bugs so I'm back to VS.

I may post more questions as I work my way through this new version. Lots of it seem the same. Still looks like their help is thin.

Thanks
