I have tried fitting the Sony burner from my new computer into my older one instead of the Samsung and the fault has gone, it burnt a DVD ok. I cant understand why Nero and VS10 work perfectly with the Samsung, it seems that X5 doesnt like the Samsung drive for some reason.
Thanks for all your help with this

Hi michael

My memory has been on a go slow this week but there have been some problems with nero's InCD taking control of the CD/DVD drive, other programs just could not access it.
Do you have InCD installed?

I dont think it is installed. I have looked in Add/remove programs and done a complete search for incd and cannot find it.
