Problems burning DVD with X5
When I try to burn a DVD in X5 it fails, either it freezes when the progress bar at the bottom of the screen Video/audio Multiplexing gets to 99%, or I get an error 5:0:0. When I eject the disc it is partly burnt. These are standard DVDs not blue ray.
I follow the work sequence that has been suggested previously on this forum, i.e. once I have edited a video I save the mpeg file, then I open up a new project with nothing in the timeline, bring in the mpeg file then burn it to DVD. This sequence works perfectly with VS10 so I don’t think there is anything wrong with my burner which is a Samsung SH-S223C. I can also burn using Nero or moviemaker 4 with no problems.
Has anyone any ideas please. Forgot to say I am using XP.

Hi Michael
First try creating a Disc Image rather than burning a disc, this will check the process and save you making those coasters.
When you hit the burn button the process should start with Convert menu, if you see convert Title then something is wrong as the Mpeg2 file should not need converting.
You can play the Iso, Disc Image on your pc, i use VLC Player.
Are you able to create the disc Image?

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
Hi
Yes I can create a disc image file. This is what I have been doing over the last few weeks. I then burn the iso file using Nero, I was doing it this way as Nero had a verify facility, but as I found out from another thread that I started the verify doesnt check that the burnt data is the same as the iso file. So I thought I would just use X5 to burn them, but have come across this problem.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
Hi Michael
I am a little confused here, in your original post you mention Multiplexing, this is the process used in Share Create Disc-Burn process
The process will either Burn a disc, create a Disc Image or Create a DVD folder.
Once the disc image has been created it is saved to the PC hard drive folder as an ISO file.
It is this Iso file that is used to burn a disc using the Burn from Disc Image option X5 or CD/DVD Disc Image recorder earlier versions of VS. (prior to X2)
So where are you having problems?
If it is the burner module you are referring to then are you creating a video file of the project, then using that to burn the disc, or are you simply burning the project, which requires converting prior to burning, which can cause problems for some users.
I prefer to create a video file first, a compliant Mpeg2, then use this to burn the disc, I have always worked this way.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
Hi Trevor
I do what you suggested at the end of your post. I create a compliant Mpeg 2 video. Then open a new project with nothing in the timeline, goto (3 share), create disc, DVD, then add the video file. Then (3 output), with the create to disc box ticked and DVD in drive I select burn. The first bar at the bottom says Prepare output content and the bar below that says Video/Audio multiplexing. It gets to 99% then just stops. I left it and after about 6 minutes unexpected error message came up. The only way I can get around it is to untick the create DVD box and select create disc image. It doesn’t stop at 99% it says writing image with no problems. Then I use this iso file with Nero to burn the DVD. I have VS10 on this computer and it burns with no problem. I have just uninstalled X5 and reinstalled it but still the same problem.

I forgot to say that after the program has got stuck at 99% and then displayed the error, the DVD has got something burnt on it but wont play.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
just to try and help things along a bit before Trevor gets back.
If you can successfully create an ISO file - where does the multiplexing error come into it ???
Once you have an ISO file you use the 'Burn from disc Image' function in VS X5 and no further file processing takes place other than transferring the disc image to disc.
Even now when I am using X5 I always just create a disc image first without any attempt to burn a disc - then use the ISO file (in VS X5) to burn as many discs as I need.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
With previous versions of Videostudio when the compliant mpeg files were loaded we could go to the output page and with the box ”Create to disc” ticked we could burn directly to the disc without having to create an iso file first. Does X5 work in a different way. A main part of my business is transferring video tapes to DVD for my customers, at present I am in the middle of copying 37 VHS tapes. I am trying to reduce the number of steps involved if possible, that’s why I tried not to have to create an iso file first then re run the program again or use Nero and burn from that file.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
X5 *should* work exactly the same as previous versions in that you should indeed be able to burn to disc direct in the authoring/burning module.
but my experience has been that if you have any problems at all in burning a disc it is better to do it in simple stages - also for my output I often need to burn additional discs sometimes a week or more later so an iso file makes that so much easier.
You do not have to re-run the VS X5 programme to burn an iso file - in the burn module un-check burn to disc and check the create iso file options.
when the iso is ready close the burn module - go to "Tools" >> "Burn from Disc Image (ISO)..." and burn as many DVDs as you want.
You can re-open VS X5 at any time and without loading a project use the burn iso function - or if you have Roxio, Nero, Imagburn or whatever you can also use one of them.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
Hi
I do the same as Brian when it comes to burning a disc, I first create a DVD Image (Iso File)
You had problems in that the process seemed to fail at 99%, my first reply was to create an Iso purely to see if the conversion process was successful without actually burning the disc.
This seems to have worked, and you were able to burn the disc using the ISO.
Now I don’t know why it should fail in the first place, you could try burning a disc directly but risk creating another coaster. Maybe it was the Mpeg and others will be OK

Hi Trevor
I have tried several different mpeg files and none of them would burn, as a check on the files I have tried some of them in VS10 and I can burn direct to DVD no problems. Strange isnt it.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
Michael It is indeed strange
When you use a compliant video file the process uses that file to burn the disc, there is no further rendering, unless you select Normalise Audio.
Can you confirm that pre rendering is not taking place.
Add a compliant video file.
Make sure that Normalise Audio is not selected
Choose to Create a Disc Image (dont want to create a coaster)
After pressing the burn button the process should start with Convert Menu If you see Convert Title then the process is rendering the video files, not what we want.
The rendered files are saved to a temporary folder called DMF_TEMP after completion are automatically deleted.
C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\15.0
The folder contains a Burn_Temp folder + Video_TS folder, make sure these are empty.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
Hi Trevor
When I burn these videos I untick the menu page as I dont need one. I set it up as you suggested and made sure the two folders you mentioned were empty before burning. The normalize audio was not ticked. The burn process started with Prepare output content and took only 30 seconds before writing the iso file (2 GB video). I tried it again with the menu page option selected and it says convert menu not convert title. I dont think it is rendering as I tried it again with normalize audio selected to see the difference when it is rendering and this slowed the process down greatly. Also after checking the the two folders were empty I tried to burn a DVD and again it got to 99% and stayed there for 7 minutes then gave the usual error message. The DVD had something burnt on it but was unplayable. The two folders were still empty afterwards. I think I might give up and in future just create the iso file and then burn it from there as has been suggested.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
Hi Michael
I guess its your only option, as mentioned before i always create an Iso file first, allows me to play the completed video before burning.
Certainly you are ticking the correct boxes so things should work ok.
I can only assume it is the Mpeg2 video file that is faulty in some way, something that VS does not like.
Now you mention disabling the menu as you dont need one, this rings bells for me, there was some problems with menus and de-selecting different options, motion menu comes to mind with audio clips. I will have to delve deeper into my grey matter.........maybe a search on the forum.....
During the editing did you add chapter points to the timeline, the green triangles at the top of the timeline, if so did you use them, i guess not as you disabled menus
If you do not need them then remove them before rendering to Mpeg2.
Unfortunately continuing to run further tests may result in making more coasters.
Probably best to ignore it and create the ISO????????????????
Maybe worth investing in a few DVD - RW discs.

Re: Problems burning DVD with X5
Hi Trevor
I dont use chapter points. I have built another computer that will only be used for capturing cine film off my 8mm cine rig. Although I wont be using it with Videostudio I thought I would install X5 to see what happens when I try to burn a DVD. I used one of the files that stuck at 99% and it worked perfectly. So it seems it is something in my main computer. The new conputer has a Sony burner and my older one has a Samsung, I might try changing the drives to see what happens.
