VS5 Register Fails
The installation goes fine, and when it finishes, the program tells me I must register to use the tools on this page. I click register, it disables the mouse and the program as though it is connecting to the Corel registration site. But nothing happens. After a long wait, the mouse is activated again and I can close out the registration windows and use the program. I am installing an upgrade version of X5 U upgrading from X4 U. I tried removing and reinstalling. Downloaded and updated the MS C++ 5 redistributable s, installed a new MS .NET 4 as recommended but it still wont open the helps and other tools in that screen. Anyone have this problem?

Re: VS5 Register Fails
Have you tried going into the Corel.com website, logging in and registering your product manually? Note that the log-on and password used on that site will not necessarily be the same as those you use for this forum, which is quite separate. In fact, have you established an account on corel.com other than the one you are using here?

Re: VS5 Register Fails
Yes, I have a long list of software registered on te Corel Site, and have a help request on file about this. I did manually register the software on the Corel site but until I can satisfy the requirement to register in the software I can't use the tools available on that menu. I thought maybe someone here might have had the same problem and found a fix. The program itself seems OK, I was able to request SP1 on the Corel site, download and install it fine. However I could not have done that in my PC until I satisfy the register screen.

Hi
When you click the Orange icon (Help and Product Information) the Corel Guide window opens
I see the the Learn tab is selected and a video plays on a You tube link.
There are other tabs, Home, DoMore and Messages. Which of these are giving problems.
Adjacent to the last tab is a Cogwheel About Video Studio will show the version and indicate if SP1 has been installed.

Re: VS5 Register Fails
The register tab that allows me to see the ones you mentioned. I click the tab to register, my mouse is inactivated as the program contacts the Corel server so I can register. Nothing works in the program until the registration is completed. After a period of time, the registration request times out and I again have control of my mouse in the program. If I use the Task Manager and try to close the program before the time out occurs, task manager says the program is waiting for a response from me. However there is no way to respond. Corel recommended that I go to their registration page and register the program manually while the failed page is open. That didn't work either. The page you get by clicking the big red ball is the one that I can't use for the things it provides, because it's registration requirements are not satisfied. I'm using an upgraded from X$ version to X5. Initially the installation just finished normally except for the registration problem. However after I removed both X4 and X5 thinking a reinstall might fix the problem, I then needed to enter the serial number from my X4 program before X5 would install. Other than that, the three installations all failed the same way. I have run repair on both my MS C++ 2005 distributable and the 04.NET between the last two installations. That made no difference.

Hi
If you access the Corel Site
http://www.corel.com/corel/allProducts.jsp
there is a log-in link top right of window.
Your account will show Your Products - Registered Products.
View the list, are your programs registered.
If no........
To the bottom of the list is Register a new Product
Are you able to register the program?

Re: VS5 Register Fails
The problem is not registering the program. It has been registered manually a long time back. This was done by going to the Corel registration page in my browser. The problem is getting the software on MY computer to go through the registration process. Only after this is finished can I access the Corel helps and features in the "big menu" that pops up if you click the red ball upper right.

Re: VS5 Register Fails
Problem solved! Corel has some real shoddy programmers I guess.
The solution is detailed on http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... orel-Guide
It tells you to do this.
Follow these steps if you are unable to complete the registration of VideoStudio Pro X5 in order to access the Corel Guide.
To resolve this, you will need to reset Internet Explorer to factory defaults. If Internet Explorer is not your default browser, you will need to set it up so that it is this one time.
Windows XP Users:
(make sure that all Internet windows are closed before applying these changes)
Click START
Click Control Panel
Double click on Internet Options
Click on the Programs Tab
Click on the button labeled "Make default" in the Default web browser section at the bottom.
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Button below labeled "Reset..."
Click OK when done
Launch VideoStudio Pro X5 (close and reopen if the program was already open)
Windows Vista and 7 Users:
(make sure that all Internet windows are closed before applying these changes)
Click START
Click Control Panel
Make sure the View by option is set to Large or Small Icons
Double click on Internet Options
Click on the button labeled "Make default" in the Default web browser section at the top
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Button below labeled "Reset..."
Click OK when done
Launch VideoStudio Pro X5 (close and reopen if the program was already

Hi
Thanks for the feed back, glad you have everything working, i have bookmarked that page for future use.
By the way, you had already registered on the Corel Web site, so after re-setting Internet Explorer did the program recognise that you were registered or did you have to go through the registration process again via Video Studio? Just curious..........

Re: VS5 Register Fails
I'm not sure how that works. I had registered the program online earlier, so there was nothing to do on Corel's web site. Clicking the registration tab just opened the ability to see tutorials and use the tools available from that menu. The thanks for registering message popped up telling me they had sent a file to my email address. Prior to that I was unable to use anything available in the menu from the big red ball. After it was activated, and the activation took place in my machine, not Corels everything was opened.Re: VS5 Register Fails

I changed my default browser to IE before installing the program on my traveling laptop with Win 7, and had no problem. I guess my suggestion would be to set Internet Explorer as the default browser before beginning the install process. I'm also guessing the next fix will remove that requirement and let you register with any of the popular web browsers available as your default. But then I could be wrong, I installed software recently that required the Win media player version 11. VSX4 or PSP X4 I think it was. Writing software using the MS 2005 V++ distribution does have it's limitations.

Re: VS5 Register Fails
I never used IE to install any of the VS programs, always used Firefox. Never had any problems.

Same here ... and in fact on this current computer, on which I installed both VS X5 and PSP X4, the browser I use is Google Chrome...
