Doing things the right way from the begining..

Post by garjobo »

For VS X5 and for that matter Photoimpact etc..

...I want to download ALL of my photos ( from my cameras SD card ) and HD Footage from my camcorders HD card and put into a few folders on my harddrive ( from where i will use Photoimpact/VS etc to bring them into my projects .

Do I simply COPY from my SD cards and then PASTE into a folder on my hardrive...OR is it better ( QUALITY WISE ) to RIGHTCLICK on the selected photos and use SEND TO...another place on my hardrive?

Just want to know best method possible to ensure im keeping the quality of my footage when i come to loading it from my SD cards and into my PC for editing.

Appreciate any replies..

Copy and Paste is exactly the same as 'send to' or even drag and drop - depending on what you choose your computer either copies the files from the card to your hard drive while leaving a copy on the SD card - OR - copies the files and then deletes the files on the card - so quality wise it is all the same so just do whatever you find easiest.

Thanks Brian for keeping that simple.

I intend to upgrade my graphics card in the near future...one of those Geforce - 5stars for HD editing ( nothing too special but an upgrade from current Geforce 3 star card )..Seeing as I am at present copy/pasting all my HD footage into a folder on my hardrive....so that i can bring it in from the folder and into VSX5 when starting my lastest project....my question is...im right now inserting /copy/pasting this HD footage into my PC using this graphics 3 star card.....SHALL I WAIT to download all my material until i UPDATE with a newer graphics card?

Or wont it make any diffrence to the 'quality' of my original footage at all...simply a newer graphics card 'may' help improve the speed/usability of my footage when i go to edit - appear less jerky in editing mode.

Have i answered my own question?

Thanks
