Timeline

Post by purest »

I'm working on a short project on Corel Videostudio X4. I have been working on the timeline, but can't figure out how to move the timeline around. For example, is there a way I can take the whole project and push it forward 30 seconds so I can stick another clip in?

I don't understand exactly what you mean by "take the whole project and push it forward 30 seconds" but it is easy to insert any clip at any point in the timeline.
There are several ways of doing it. You can position the blue cursor at the point you want to insert the new clip and create a split point there. The switch to the timeline and you should now see 2 thumbnails for clip you just split. Now simply drag your new clip from the library and drop it on the 2nd thumbnail of the split clips. The new clip will be inserted "between" the 2 split thumbnails.

If this is not what you want please clarify your question with more details.

You do not need to make a space before inserting a video or photograph in the timeline in front of anything already there, if you want to insert a 30 second video just drag it from the library to the point you want to insert it - even if that is at the very beginning of the timeline - and drop it in, all of the items in the timeline will move to the right to let it in.

The same applies throughout the timeline - you can insert additional items anywhere there is a split in the video - if there is no split then make one using the scissor tool - every thing in the timeline will automatically move to accommodate the new items.

Thanks; however, every time I insert a clip, it messes up clips and audio that I had overlapping at specific points because overlap doesn't move with the insertion of clips. This is why I asked if there was a way if the whole project can be moved, otherwise sticking a clip at the front would force me to go and move every piece of overlap I worked so hard to position. Is there a way that I could move the overlapping bits, like overlapping video and audio, with the insertion of a clip so that it doesn't all get messed up?

Hi

You can lock the timelines together using the Ripple Editing feature

Float the mouse over the icons to the left of the timelines, there is a "padlock" below the far icon, this will activate Ripple Editing making the timeline padlocks available. Lock the timelines using the individual padlocks......

When you add your clip to the beginning all timelines s will shift right.

For more info...Press F1 for help and search for Ripple Editing
