VHS to DVD transfer with newer VS versions
Hi. I want to try a newer version of VS with a Canopus capture device. I want to convert some old VHS movies to DVD. Can this be accomplished with any of the newer VS versions, 11 up to 15? Also, will they work with Vista 32 bit? Thanks!

Re: VHS to DVD transfer with newer VS versions
Since the Canopus devices all -- as far as I am aware -- use Firewire, and since all versions of VS recognise Firewire and can deal with DV/AVI capture, then yes, you can use the Canopus with any version of VS. And yes, it will work with Vista 32 bit.
The only problem can occur if you are using Windows 7 since Microsoft updated their Firewire codec/driver and VS has difficulty with it. The solution in that case is to rollback the driver to a legacy OHCI driver, which is easy enough. I mention this in case Microsoft's update also applied to Vista.

How about from a VHS player? Can the newer VS versions allow capture from an analog source? Thanks !

Re: VHS to DVD transfer with newer VS versions
You still need a capture device like the Canopus connected to both the VHS at one end and your computer at the other. But yes, you can use recent versions of VS for that too.
