What are you switching to?
What are you switching to?
I'm making a completely unscientific mini-poll of what are people thinking, trying, moving to after the demise of ASP (if it will happen).
* ASP still works fine for my current camera and will continue to do so for my current equipment but I can see next year getting a Canon 5DMk3 or a cheaper full frame.
I have Lightroom on one Windows computer, but I use ASP on Ubuntu and the pickings are limited on Linux.
Thanks

I'll try to use both Darktable and Canon DPP on WINE for some time and then decide which is better.

I'll switch to LR, in fact I started to learn it... it has all what I missed in ASP, just speed and the "prescribed" catalog are behind ASP

Re: What are you switching to?
I"ll return to DxO as soon as they release the modules for my camera, currently scheduled 10/2012.
In the meantime ASP will work for me, I bought a license because (for me) it does what it should do.
A program worth to investigate for some might be the free Hasselblad Phocus.
Available for Win and Mac, apparently most camera's supported when you run Aperture on Mac.
[edit]
In all fairness I should add that I would switch back to DxO anytime, regardless of the current state of Corel affairs with ASP.
I moved from DxO to ASP as it was the best alternative when I bought a camera that was not supported by DxO.
But I really prefer working with DxO, it brings me great images with less effort compared to other applications.

Re: What are you switching to?
I'll stick with ASP until I have to do otherwise.
It works for me now with what I have.
May change when and if I get a new camera.
One thing I won't do is help finance Adobe. I'll go with one of the small guys if I have to.

Re: What are you switching to?
Since ASP has a few niggles after the last update; I have been sitting in limbo, waiting for for an update to fix the last bugs. Since I need to get my photos in order once and for all; I need to start now.
In the last yar, I have have also fooled around with cameras not supported by ASP (Sigma DP2, Fuji X10) or poorly supported (Canon 5DMkII and Olympus OM-D E-M5).
So I need software that can handle all those cameras in a sensible manner. I have licenses for ACDSee Pro and LR 3.6; ACDSee Pro has an OK user interface, has reasonable good DAM and has OK DNG support (unlike v3 back in' 09); but is missing a few features in the Develop module (not able to add a vignette, no lens correction database) and is slow. LR has it own flaws (quirky interface, forces you to use a catalog, and is slow); but it does have great camera support.
I have also a CaptureOne Express license which I got free through a magazine. OK interface, but the Express edition lacks the fun stuff that I need, is also a bit slow and has poor camera support (much like ASP). Does not support DNG either.
So it looks like it will be LR for me from now on; I can live with it's quirks and I have some ideas on how to work around the fact that one have to use catalogs. Catalogs are a PITA, since I use three computers regurarly.

As Linux user I'm looking at Darktable but also at RawTherapee which is cross platform.
I'm curious what the original devs are going to do.

What an idiot question.
Please show me the announcement from Corel that says they are not continuing with ASP.

AfterShot Pro on Facebook:bananahead wrote:What an idiot question.

They may or may not have fired one or more of the original developers of Bibble, but we do not know the reason for this and it might make good sense to all others than those in here who known these people personally. Let's see what happens."Hi all, we've seen your concerns so wanted to let you know that Corel continues to support AfterShot Pro and are in development for the next planned product update, currently in beta.
Stay tuned - we'll have more news as we get closer to the release.
Thanks for all your support."

Re: What are you switching to?
Is that a feature of the Pro edition then? Or is it like Bibble/ASP and only support native DNG (created from camers?) The express edition does not recognise the DNG's I created from Sigma DP2 files.KeithR wrote:Yes it does.tomsi42 wrote: Does not support DNG either.

I am finding Darktable to be a good tool. I produce better images with ASP, but Darktable has a future in Linux and the developers are extremely responsive. Here's an exchange I had with one of them: http://www.darktable.org/2012/07/darkta ... -released/. See the comments at the bottom.

And you probably shouldn't either.algreen345 wrote:I am finding Darktable to be a good tool. The problem with tools like Darktable is that they dont have to sell it, so all kind of ridiculous designs and features remain in the program. Take a look at the way the plugins are designed in Darktable. You have to identify them through some kind of pictogram to activate them, which in reality means hovering the mouse and then wait for the tooltip to appear for each of the 49 of them until you find the one you're looking for. Absurd, really!
Re: What are you switching to?
Now using Photo Ninja with converted DNG for my NX200. I hope Aftershot updates soon to work with my camera.

Capture Pro from Phase One and Adobe ACR/Lightroom.
I also have option to use DCRAW and RAW Photo Processor.
