VSX5 .I click on the text, the size handles show, I right click the text to raise the font attributes
box, I change the colour in the box + click OK. What exactly do I have to do next because the text colour has not changed and I cant find out how to do this………….Ken

Very strange Kenneth because the procedure you describe is exactly what I do and it works for me.
do you get any sort of message after clicking OK ?
does this happen on all menu templates or is it occurring on one specific one ?

You can reset the program to its default state if this was working for you before.

I followed Abiel's link and noticed a link to deleting temp files, which I did.Went back to VS with a test project.After fiddling around I have found that when the colour box ok did not work(tried on various templates)- I got the colour to change by then double clicking on the text then clicking again.The problem arose on the 1st project I have done with VSX5.
