Hi All,
I tried to find an answer to a specific question and didn't see one. I'm in betwen computers right now as my old one bit the dust and I'm saving up for a new one. In the meantime, I have been looking at LR and ASP and think both will work for what I need (which is sorting through the thousands of images and comparing the 4 to 10 near identical versions and choosing the best one). I noticed on LR it is set up so one can quickly mark the better photo between the 2 comparisons, and move to the next one, and so on, to rank the best out of a similar set/group. I suspect ASP has the same feature, but wondered which is easier/faster. Does ASP have the same kind of sort/comparison of 2 photos and quickly comparing to the next one, or is it more convoluted.
I'd download a trial to test between the two, but I'd like to take advantage of promotional pricing on LR which will probably not be available by the time my computer is here.
If this has been discussed, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.

Easy to do with multiview on AS.luv2ctheworld wrote:I noticed on LR it is set up so one can quickly mark the better photo between the 2 comparisons, and move to the next one, and so on, to rank the best out of a similar set/group.
Select up to 6 images hit the mutliview button or hotkey.
Then you can zoom and pan in all images in parallel for the comparison.
one of the images wll be the hot one where you can use rating keys, tag/reject or any other function, so you could change WB on the hot one and compare the result to the other.
You might want to have a look at the kickstart guide in my signature.
cheers

In LR you have to modes :
- comparison were you can view only 2 images at a time, zoom and pan synchronously or not
- survey were you can view multiple images, but cannot view several zoomed images at the same time (making this mode not very useful IMO)
In ASP you have multi-view, which lets you zoom and pan (synchronously or not) over 6 images at a time
I found ASP multi-view much more practical and faster when you shoot multiple images of the same subject
And I also found that on my computer (quad-core i7, windows 7), the user interface reacts much more quickly in ASP (to switch between RAW images or to zoom), which helps me a lot when you have many pictures to sort.
You can compare by yourself, both programs have downloadable 30-day evaluation versions.

Belated thanks to the posters. Went ahead and tried ASP and think it should work out OK.
Now I ran into a technical issue, so I guess I'll be searching to see if there's been a similar problem and a resolution.

I have a different answer to this question, just food for thoughts. Do you really need a software as powerful as LR or ASP just for picture selections? It's like buying a Ferrari because you need to drive to the supermarket. Both expensive and maybe not the most convenient.
LR and ASP are first batch RAW processing softwares. Sure they handle jpg as well but I would not consider them if I do not shoot RAW.
So, depending on your workflow, I would pick LR/ASP (both do what you need) or a simple DAM (which might bring additional things more useful to you)

Both companies offer a 30 day return policy (when purchased through the respective companies website). If you have a "buy now, save tons" situation you could just buy it and if you change your mind with-in the 30 days return it for a refund. Check with each website for details, but it's one approach.
