Chapter Markings on MP4

Post by burrway »

Hi: Is there a way to preserve chapter markings when you output to an MP4? I output from VideoStudio Pro X4 to MPEG-4/iPhone H.264 (640 X 480) and the chapters disappear. I'd also like to have a title page, too, but I don't know how to do that either. Thank you.

Unless you are making a DVD or Blu-Ray, you might have a bit of trouble finding software to make chapters and player software that uses them...

Try an MKV file. I've never made an MKV file, but apparently it supports chapters and I believe it can contain MP4 if that's the encoding format you perfer. A quick-search turned-up this.

I assume you'll have to use a 3rd-party tool to create MKV & chapters. (MKV seems to be mostly used by video pirates.) And of course, your player will have to support MKV and chapters.

Apple QuickTime might support chapters too. Again, I assume you'll have to use a 3rd-party tool.

Or, consider making a DVD or Blu-Ray. Menus & chapters are part of the standards, so every DVD/Blu-Ray player supports them.
I'd also like to have a title page, too, but I don't know how to do that either. Thank you.
What are you having trouble with? Are you having trouble adding text? Did you find "Titles" in the user manual?

Thanks DVDDoug---I exported the project to DVD folders, then used handbrake to convert to MP4. I could see the chapters in handbrake so it worked ok. As far as the titles go, I've got to do a bit more work on that -- I think I'm good to go, though. Thank you!
