I am also having this problem. I upgraded from x3 to x5 and I have not yet been able to open the program. I've been through each of Abiel Corel NA's steps and still nothing doing. I get the unspecified error and the dump file. Will I actually have any luck if I share the dump file with support?

If you try reinstalling once again, next time first establish a new user profile with Admin privileges. Then in that new ID, try reinstalling X5. If it opens properly, you can then delete the new user profile and X5 should continue to work.

I'm unable to advise on what reaction you might get from support. We are users like you and don't work for support. But it seems to be rather hit or miss: some users report good results from contacting them, but others are (much) more negative.

Thanks Ken,
I'm still unable to get the program to install, unfortunately. Our IT guy set me up with an account that had admin privileges, but that didn't produce any better result. Corel support has been reasonably responsible, but I've been a little annoyed that I've been prompted to pay for "priority technical support." They are evidently reviewing my EVTX file, so perhaps I'll have additional insights to share soon. In the meantime, though it didn't work for me, other users might make some headway with this resource:

Corel support wrote:
"I would also suggest a fresh install but will provide our cleanup tool to help with the removal in case anything was missed in the manual removal. Use the VideoStudio Cleanup tool and then reinstall the software once more to see if there is any change in the issue."
VideoStudio X5 Cleanup Tool:

Just an update on this error. I got a great resolution from Corel support! By looking at the EVTX (aka "event viewer" file) they were able to see that a browser extension called "Babylon" was interfering with the program launch:
The Event Viewer logs indicate that the program is crashing because of a third party browser addon that is attempting to take control of our files. This is a known issue and I can provide a knowledgebase article that describes how you can remove the browser addon but I will also address that process in this email.

You will need to open Programs and Features located in the Windows Control Panel which should provide you with a list of the programs that are installed. Look for a program called "Babylon" or possibly "Browser Manager" and remove it from your computer; this is the program that tries to control our file and causes the crash.
I was able to uninstall it, and now the program launches and works perfectly! Just thought I'd update and share that info in case anyone else is having difficulty.

Hi Andrew

Thank you for the feedback, very interesting.
I am aware of other users having problems launching X5 so this info should be very useful.

I searched the Knowledge Base for Babylon and came up with this notice. Error in VXCODER

I guess its associated in some way?
