Hi Guys,
It's been awhile since I've posted a topic, but here I go again. I was trying to 'create a video file' when I received this message, 'Ulead VideoStudio [2000:1:1] Failed to open the MPEG encoder.
Can anyone help me out? I've made countless movies and this is the first time I'm having this problem. Oh, maybe I had it in 2008, but I've just turned 70 and remembering what I did then is a thing of the past!
Any help is truly appreciated.

Re: Failed to open the MPEG encoder
Unfortunately, you simply don't provide enough information to even begin guessing. For instance, the fact that the error message refers to Ulead suggests that it is an old version, probably preceding the takeover several years ago by Corel. So which version are you using.
Next, what is the format of the video you are trying to convert? Right click on a clip in the timeline or VS library window, and select Properties. A description of what editing you have done and exactly which type of mpeg you are trying to output would also be helpful.
And finally -- for the moment anyway!!
-- what is your version of Windows? Having some information about your computer might also prove necessary, depending on the information you provide above...
Thanks in advance.

Re: Failed to open the MPEG encoder
Thank you, Mr. Berry for your prompt response and your assistance is truly appreciated.
The version is: 'Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus by Corel.'
The format Properties of Video: Video type - MPEG-2 Video; Total frames - 199 frame(s); Attributes - 24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3; Frame rate - 29,970 frames/sec; Data rate - Variable bit rate (Max. 9000 kbps).
The System Properties: Microsoft Windows XP; Home Edition; Version 2002;
Service Pack 3 Computer: Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80Ghz; 2.79 GHz, 3.50 GB of RAM
Question: I normally like to keep my hard drive 90% or better with 'free space'. When I finished with a project, I usually back it up on discs and remove it from the system, clean and Defrag the hard drive.
Recently, I've been downloading various drivers and software components, onto this computer, in order to provide these drivers for another Dell desktop my Son-in-law recently gave me. Could there, possibly, be a conflict with some of the programs or drivers downloaded and Ulead VideoStudeo 11 Plus? I also loaded VideoStudio 11+ on the 'given' system and I tested its ability to 'Render' a film clip. It did successfully, on a very small few second clip but, when I tried to 'Render' a larger clip, it said, 'Insufficient memory'. The 'given' system has 2 GB of Ram and I'm thinking of increasing it to 4 GB. Oh, the given system is a Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz; 2.79 GHz, 1.99 GB of Ram. Could you assist me with why I'm receiving the 'insufficient memory' warning? At present, the 'given' computer has an 80 GB hard drive with 57 GB of 'free space'.
Thanks to all for any assistance you can provide.

Re: Failed to open the MPEG encoder
Your system with those specs and XP should definitely be more than enough to run VS11+ without memory issues. I used to have a virtually identical computer (though the processor was 3.0 GHz, not 2.
and it worked fine with VS 11, and indeed X2.
With all the moving about and installing of other files and drivers you describe, though, it is indeed possible to you may have inadvertently removed or overwritten something already on your computer. That could account for the 'failed to open mpeg encoder' error message, and a simple reinstallation of VS11+ should fix that, if you have not already tried it.
As for the 'insufficient memory' message, I am really not sure since, as I said above, 2 GB of RAM plus 57 GB of free hard disc space should be more than enough on XP to render a large mpeg-2 file. A file required to fill a single layer DVD is 4.3 GB, and while it is usually suggested that twice this space might be required to create temporary files etc, once again you have more than enough space for that. What other programs are you running while doing the rendering? You need to keep such other programs to an absolute minimum, and it could be that some of the other programs you have installed could be operating in the background and hogging memory.
