Transparent GIF and Web Page Image Backgrounds

Post by jdanniel »

Hello. I just purchased Paint Shop Pro X4, and do have one question about making transparent images.

I’m designing a simple, basic text-only logo for my web site. I know how to make the image transparent. That’s not a problem, if I'm using a plain solid color as the background of the page.

What I would like to know is this: How do I make the text logo transparent if the page background of my web site is an image, such as a photograph, or textual wallpaper. I’ve never tried that, and am wondering if that will make the creation of a transparent GIF more difficult.

Is the procedure for making a transparent GIF different in this case? If so, what steps should I take? Thank you for any assistance you care to provide.

AFAIK, you cannot create a GIF with transparent background on PSP X4, what you need to do is to save the image as .png or Portablet Network Graphics. Once the transparent properties have been saved then you can use it on your website no matter what kind of background you have.

My copy of X4 has a GIF Optimizer with options for transparency. I never use it though because I save my images as PNGs.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

X4 does have a GIF Optimizer that has transparency options. I figured out how to do it, and it was actually quite easy. I played with the tolerance number until I got it the way I wanted.
