What is an alpha channel?
I've seen instructions to use this but I'm not sure what its core purpose is and I can't seem to find a definition in the user manual, online or in this forum. Maybe I need to be more patient and I will figure it out.... Thank you to the person who suggest I use them as it will solve one of my issues.

I don't know what online search engine you used, but a Google search for "alpha channel" returned any number of informative replies.
