Error message - vstudio.exe has generated errors ..........

Post by kyjet »

Hi. I really need help. I bought a Panasonic NV-DS50 digital video camcoder and Ulead VideoStudio SE Basic ver 6.0 came with it. Had no problems using it for a year until recently. I have used several trial versions of Ulead products and uninstalled them when it's trial period expired. The error message appeared pretty much after these uninstallations.

The error message is "vstudio.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created". I could not find any error log and the same error message appeared after I restarted the program. I looked in the newsgroup and tried the registry (delete) approach. I also tried reinstalling the program and indeo from the CD. Still the error message.

My PC - W2K with SP 4. Fully updated with microsoft update patches. I have no other Ulead products installed.

Would appreciate if anyone else can help or suggest another video capture software. Thanks

Hi

Read this posting

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... +installer

Some of us have had problems when using VS 9 and the Windows Installer V3.

I have reported to Ulead and am waiting for a Positive responce.
If you find this to be your problem PLEASE report it to Ulead.

Do a search of the forum for more info.

P.S (all seem to be running Win 2K)

Thanks for the tip. I uninstalled Win Installer 3.1 and re-installed VS 6. Still problem persists. Sigh....

Do you know any good alternative to VS ?

Yes, Ulead Video Studio 9, it is great.

However UVS6 works for me too, but my other earlier versions (7 and 8 ) of UVS do not since upgrading and installing later patches for Windows 2000.

I had to rebuild my PC, that is I had to reinstall Windows 2000 and service patches (leaving out Windows installer) to get UVS9 working again after Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 crached it  .

UVS9 is really good, if you can upgrade to it, you should enjoy it.

Ulead is the best, don't give up yet... :D

Some of the shared dll's are likely to have been corrupted when uninstalling your trial versions.

IMHO, the only way out is to clean your system of all links to, folders of and registry key pertaining to ULEAD. Also clean out any temp files on your system.

After reboot, install VS again and it should work. After all, it did before. You can also get XP Pro and use the Media Director (don't know the exact name of the top of my head) provided with that. It's rudimentary but seems to work for some people. For my taste, even VS is a little bit too basic. I use ULEAD MediaStudioPro 7.

Hi heinz-oz

Thanks for the reply
Re windows Installer V3

I first had problems with the trial version 9
I have cleaned my system that many times my pc could perform the operation by its self.
But am I missing something, I am a little unsure about ‘the registry’.
Doing the wrong thing here will have drastic consequences.

I have a sort of step by step guide to clean install, but whose to say its complete.

Do you have details of a clean install for VS 8 and 9.

When I install the Windows Installer V3 (which the windows update prompts me to do every 3 days)
I cannot capture using VS 9.
As soon as I select ‘capture video’ from the capture window VS 9 shuts down.
Selecting ‘change capture plug-in’ has the same effect.

Uninstall the windows installer V3 and all works fine.
I have tried earlier versions, again with the same results.
I am waiting for ulead tech supports answers.

OS win 2k
1 Gb ram
Ati Aiw capture card

I think it has something to do with my capture card and change capture plug-in.

Any help appreciated

Thanks Trevor
