Is Aftershot dead?
Is Aftershot dead?
Hi,
no news from the dev team since a loooong time... Some beta testers say that the devs don't even answer to their questions... Seems that the days of Aftershot Pro are counted, or am I a bit too pessimistic?
IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?

Re: Is Aftershot dead?
Yes. You'r right! I noticed that the forum is fairly quite lately. But I tend to see that as a good sign.
Maybe everyone is happy w/ the software & have a good reliable tool now. We're all busy working on our images rather than dealing w/ computer stuf. Isn't it great!
Regarding the dev team. They may enjoy some good vacation right now. They deserve it! We want to see them well rested and in good shape in the fall! (like for us photographers, fall is peak season).
Another month or so and don't forget... "f/8 and be there"! (so, let's say "Keyboard and be there" for the dev team)
Enjoy!

Re: Is Aftershot dead?
Well what did you expect, it's still the same team as during the bad old Bibble 5 days. No news, no release, no clue. I wonder why I still come to check from times to times.
One could have hoped that being bought out by Corel would improve on that, if only by giving them access to some PR, but then again, it's Corel, long known for buying software and burying it (can anybody spell "Bloomba" A.K.A. Corel Mail I think ?).
Anyway, business (or lack of thereof) as usual...

No, I just wanted to say that there is a rumour that AfterShot is really a "dead parrot" now...

Re: Is Aftershot dead?
I am reasonable sure that Corel would not buy a product like Bibble for a large sum of money and kill it so fast.
Form what I understand, Corel is as tighlipped as Bibble ever was, so I am not surprised that we won't hear anything until the next service pack is released.
Also, it is summer holiday time for the northern hemisphere, which would explain why there is less activity here.

Re: Is Aftershot dead?
Of course AfterShot is not dead. Corel have never been very vocal about release plans.
And this is a user forum and not a Corel forum.
Corel bought Bibble quite a while ago and I suspect that the lack of info coming from Bibble was a Corel choice.

Anyway, don't you find strange that 4 peoples working at full time in 8 monthes only produced a service pack with some camera support and even no bug fix???
I can't think that this is normal work...

Re: Is Aftershot dead?
I do disagree there. They released ASP in January, the first service pack came in April - that's 4 months. SP1, as I will call it, fixes some major bugs - e.g. highlight recovery. I think we will see another service pack soon, that will fix more bugs and add more camera support.roland65 wrote:Anyway, don't you find strange that 4 peoples working at full time in 8 monthes only produced a service pack with some camera support and even no bug fix???

If they are only 4 people working on ASP, that is as much progress as we can expect as 4 people will mean only about 2 developers; the rest will be test and documentation resources.
Re: Is Aftershot dead?
All right, things are clear now : the Austin team is fired and the Linux version will certainly be abandoned...
Bad times...

Re: Is Aftershot dead?
Seems like typical large organisation attitude, "I dont care about you as I have your money so go away and dont bother me!"
Still learning after all these years!

Re: Is Aftershot dead?
Where did you got that information? The Linux support is the main reason I changed my workflow to Bibble some time ago. Would be a pitty to be forced to change it again.roland65 wrote:All right, things are clear now : the Austin team is fired and the Linux version will certainly be abandoned...
Well, there is an alternative growing, it's called "Darktable". It's pretty buggy since it's still in beta state, but it has an amazing set of features. So even if your information is true it wouldn't be the end of the world for Linux users...

Re: Is Aftershot dead?
I am very sorry for the team of developers who did ASP from Bibble for Corel.
My main interest for Bibble was the ability to use the software in Windows and Linux. And since 2005, I use Bibble-ASP with pleasure and success in my hobby. Thanks to the team.
Now, the rumor tells that the Linux version will be canceled. If the facts confirm this rumor, I think I shall no longer use ASP as I shall have to use different softwares on different systems. I had a look on darktable under Linux. It looks promising and its free. Today, i also use DXO on Windows for files were the results of ASP do not convince me. And the quality of the results is good. I don't worry about cataloging as I use the old folder method.
So, if ASP will no longer support Linux, I shall no longer support ASP, with lot of of sorrow and regrets.
We live in a modern world, where man is nothing except financial object, where financial direction of big companies buy business to keep licenses, kill the production, and the competitor and throw out men.
