Can I import my vs pro x4 library to pro x5's
If I buy vs pro x5, will I be able to export my present library from pro x4 and import it into pro x5's default library? Will buying the boxed or downloadable version of x5 make any difference in achieving this end? Which is to say, if I download the new x5 version will I lose my present library or will I be able to move it from the old to the new? Yeah, I got some kind of huge library I don't want to risk losing. Thanks gentlemen. Regards, Mike Warren.

Hi Mike
Sorry but I do not think you can automatically export the library from X4 to X5.
I ran a quick test which gave an error relating to the number of files.
With earlier versions it was quite a simple process, copying the VS_Video.dat files from one version to another.
You could of course place your clips in a project, then open in X5 to drag them to the library.
described by Corel here:-000013545 - How to import libraries from VideoStudio Pro X4 to VideoStudio Pro X5? Search the knowledge base for 000013545
Download or Disc versions, the programs are identical, afaik
You may be best to give the trial X5 a run before you purchase.

Re: Can I import my vs pro x4 library to pro x5's
You're right! I got trial version and when I tried to import library from X4 I got same message you did. Instead, as you said, Corel "recommends" that I move X4's library into X5's library by following an old, slow, backward way... considering, I have 37 different categories to move, each brimming over with images and video. Which means going through Corel's "recommended process", #000013545, 37 times. From what I understand, before you simply clicked "export library" under settings and then "import library" in the upgraded version, and all 37 categories of my images, photos and music instantly filled the new upgraded version's library with all things in their proper category, as was in previous version. So I'm now wondering why they gave us this wonderful export/import feature in the last three versions of Video Studio Pro... if now they are making it invalid when upgrading to X5... with X4's library overflowing with files? Why such great progress in so many things... and then this?

Re: Can I import my vs pro x4 library to pro x5's
Hi Mike
I did not realise that there was ever an automatic method of transferring the library.
I have to admit that i do not use the library to hold my clips, only temporary, generally my libraries are empty.
My files reside on the hard drive in dedicated folders, if i need then i insert to timeline or library.
Older versions of VS used the VS_Video.dat etc files to hold the library details.
Copying these (windows explorer) from one version to the other effectively moved the library.
The latest libraries use a composite layout, whereas older versions had separate libraries for photo, video and audio. Moving the VS_Video.dat for X4-X5 causes problems.
I am sure there must be another file somewhere that will do the job, not found it as yet?
Corel simply recommend adding the files to a project VSP then opening that in the new version.
I would think it as easy to rebuild the library again.

To answer your question. Yes you can import the library of VS X4 to the library of VS x5 but -- Just like what the other forum users said -- you need to do that manually.Mike Warren wrote:If I buy vs pro x5, will I be able to export my present library from pro x4 and import it into pro x5's default library? Re: Can I import my vs pro x4 library to pro x5's
Thank you gentlemen for taking the time to comment. In the final analyse it seems Corel believes that "manually" transferring the files of one library to another, in this case Pro X4's to Pro X5's, is worthy of these two outstanding video editing softwares, which I cannot praise enough. Consider: I wish to use VS Pro X4 and 5's librarys to their full capabilities. So I click "ADD +" to add a new category to my library. It allows me a generous 38 categories maximum. So I use all 38 spaces allowed for my 38 categories, which I need for a complex 2 1/2 hour documentary. Each category is now loaded with files, making hundreds of files easily accessible. But... I must now upgrade my Pro X4 to Pro X5, which means importing my library to Pro X5. To do this manually, which is the only way Corel offers, I must go through it's recommended 11 step process, and do that 38 times. Now, I had no problem exporting my entire Pro X4 library, all 38 categories, to my hard drive. I did this with just one click... "Export". So I sincerely wonder why Corel cannot be consistent with there "Export" feature and accomplish the same thing vise-versa in Pro X5. Instead of following 11 manual steps 38 times, is at all possible to do the same thing with just one click... "Import". I mean, my Pro X4 library files are out there waiting on my hard drive. What ever obstacle is preventing this... I hope Corel can come up with a "patch" that Pro X5 is worthy of.

Re: Can I import my vs pro x4 library to pro x5's
Hi Mike
I was just working on the X4/X5 library issue when i saw your post.
The filters are installed to this folder
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4\vft_plug
If the NewBlue are part of the X4 installation and not additional purchased ones then they are probably included with X5, I see more NB content in X5 than X4.
Otherwise copy the files (newblue.VFT) from one folder to the other, should work??
The stabiliser etc are
proDADMercalli20Corel4.vft
proDADRoute40Corel4.vft
proDADVitascene20Corel4.vft
You should be able to copy these to your X5 folder.
Then you may have to reset the workstation to its factory default for the filters to show.?
Mike are you working on the trial version of X5?

Re: Can I import my vs pro x4 library to pro x5's
Hi Mike
I may have found a solution.
You will be best working with the library managers to export your libraries.
Do this for X4 and X5, I assume you are using X5 trial
The exported folders contain a file called VS_AllMediaView.dat
Backup the X4 file just in case...........
Copy the X4 file to the X5 folder overwriting the X5 file.
It would be good if others could test this process

Re: Can I import my vs pro x4 library to pro x5's
Hi Trevor,
I tried all you said, but, alas, no results. Copied X4 vft_plug to X5's. But still have only NB essentials 1 and 2. In X4 I have also essentials 3 and 5 and NB Stabilizer. But... I did not reset to default. How do I do that? Perhaps also because I'm copying to VS X5's trial version? Don't know.
Also exported library to hard drive of both X4 and X5. Then copied 4's allmedia folder to 5's, as you suggested. Then in X5 tried to import it. But got usual window message, "Cannot import these files etc..." Seems some kind of import issue. I hope Corel takes the challenge.

Re: Can I import my vs pro x4 library to pro x5's
Regarding New Blue, I am assuming your reference to NB 1, 2, 3 and 5 means that you bought them -- though it would be useful if you could confirm this. I bought 1,2,3, and 4. To install them in X5, I simply did the obvious and installed them from the original installation files sent by New Blue. I trust you would have kept those original files somewhere safe for just this purpose...?

Hi
000013546 - Manually resetting Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 to its Factory Default Setting
First back up the library, Settings Library Manager
Rename the 15.0 folder to say "15.0copy", a new folder will be generated when starting VS X5
C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\15.0
same for X4
