Trevor,
I don't know what you have rendered, but the clip you put for download (named "test1+optimiser") is in 25fps, which means PAL (and it seems that since you used the MPEG Optimizer, VS created a clip with similar format)
It seems that the details from all the previous posts are getting blured, so I'll put all of them together with the results we've achieved so far:
1. I have a PAL panasonic HDC-900 camcorder and I'm shooting at 13Mbs, H.264.
2. I have VS x5 Ultimate (and VS x4 Pro) - both set on PAL.
3. Rendering clips from that camcorder and still images from various sources with settings of MPEG Optimizer or "same as first clip" (and even other formats, such as HD MP4) resulted with some strange blips.
4. Rendering the same sources with BR format (no H.264) results in a "clear" video.
5. you have rendered a project with my clips and 3 PCs of mine with VS x5 and x4 showed the wrong frame on timestamp 8:17 from your result (which I have recorded and uploaded for you all to see)
6. Another user has downloaded your video and found the same wrong frames. Yes, they were on a different timestamp, but I assume it is because he's using NTSC.
7. Now, here's the realy funny part: when putting YOUR video in Pinnacle Studio, the correct frames are shown at timestamp 8:17. I have reported that finding early in this chain. So, two video editors are showing DIFFERENT frames for the SAME video.
Now, what is it that I am missing?
Doron

Re: Strange rendering problem
Hi Doron
Thanks for the update, I do understand what you are saying and what you are seeing.
The problem I have is recognising these rogue frames, I keep saying that I do not see them.
The video I view on my pc looks ok.
Uploaded a Screen Capture to you tube
So whats the difference between our systems?

Hi Trevor,
I don't know what is the difference between our systems, since I tested your video on 3 different PCs with very different hardware/software. The user chanuk also wrote that he noticed the wrong frames.
So it seems you are the odd one

Hi
Yep very odd, you are not the first to notice, but at least the video plays ok.
Again have you tried disabling Smart Render, odd sort of request I know but just maybe.........
Smart Render is used by default, so every pc / program will use this option unless you turn it off.

Re: Strange rendering problem
Did you turn it off when created the "test1+optimiser" video? If so, then how is YOUR video plays wrong?
And the million dollar question is: Why does VS show the wrong frames whereas Pinnacle studio show the right frames?

Re: Strange rendering problem
Hi
Yes I disabled Smart Render when using the Optimised option.
When i am testing i really have to disable Smart Render other wise corrupt frames may be copied from earlier renders. Or I start a new project for each test.
The main problem we have is that i do not have a problem,
my video files view ok on my pc.
I do not have Pinnacle so cannot comment there.
------------------------------
I am continuing to run a few more tests, deleting all Smart Proxy files then render with Smart Render created a good video, however comparing the frames in the timelines shows some differences, although the preview screen showed ok? Strange ..........
-------------------------------
Doron try this
Open the test1 vsp, contains 9-3 sec clips.27 seconds long
Render this --- then add the new video to the overlay track, compare the timeline frames.
you can view each scene change
and your 8:17 frame can be clearly seen
------------------------------
Disable Smart Render and create a new video file
compare the frames in the timelines..............
------------------------------

There is also a problem with frames at 21 seconds

Hi Trevor,
Been busy.
Disabling the "smart render" seems to to do the trick (well, it seems that it is not that smart after all
).
Thank you.
Doron

Hi Doron
Thanks for the feedback, dont know why Smart Render caused this problem.
But is one option that should be disabled if you are having problems
As you say "Not so Smart Render"
