Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
Hi! I realize this issue has been addressed on this board many times -- I've read most of these posts... BUT, what I've discovered, I haven't seen mentioned...
---first, I am NOT referring to the "extra" templates, etc. you download after the program is installed... (the vpt files) -- I understand how to install these & already have them installed properly
---I have a VS X4 DVD... the program from this DVD is installed on my desktop... I also just installed it on my on my laptop since I will need to work on my projects on the laptop for awhile
---When I opened the program on the laptop, I discovered many Instant Project templates there I don't have on my desktop [in the "beginning", "middle", "end" categories... After quite a bit of comparing & searching, I believe these were never installed on my desktop for some reason! [I found the file names on the laptop, but they are nowhere to be found on my desktop]
---I tried opening the program DVD to install them from there, but it's not obvious to me where they are...
These Instant Project templates would really be useful to me --
1) why did they install on the laptop but not on the desktop
2) how can I get them installed on my desktop WITHOUT uninstalling and re-installing the program??? Is there an "easy solution?" I don't want to risk losing all of the other extras I already downloaded, etc. & needing to start all over!
In case this helps, one file which is part of one of the templates is called "HM_Multioverlay track 01_Start.wmv" -----
On my laptop, it resides in the C:Program Files (x86) Corel\Corel Video Studio Pro X4\en-US\Editing Style\Style\Beginning\NTSC\26_HM_MultiOverlay track01.wvs [this can't be found on my desktop]
THANK YOU!!!!!

p.s. -- I have just copied all of these files from the folder on my laptop & put them in the corresponding folders on the desktop, but so far am not able to access them from within VS -- do these need to be further installed somehow???

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
Hi
Usually the program is provided with an Extra Contents file or disc.
This completes the installation by adding further samples and templates to the program.
I am not sure if the MultiOverlay track01.wvs is provided with the Comtents files or the main program file.
Have you installed the contents files

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
Thank you for your reply. I managed to do a "work around" for the instant project templates that should have installed but didn't for some reason. I opened VS on my laptop, selected the template that had installed there, used the "export as template" command, then transferred it and installed it to my desktop (in the custom template folder, as you would do the downloadable vpt files.) A VERY cumbersome process, but at least that worked (these templates appear to be working fine on the desktop -- it remains to be seen whether these templates in project I create this way can be transferred back & forth.)
About the CONTENTS FILES (or "extras" or whatever they're called) -- these are the files that didn't install properly for some reason on my desktop (The instant project templates are especially what I want.) Obviously they are really important for the projects I do. I had no idea what I was missing out on for all this time!
I have pasted below the screen capture of the contents of my VS X4 DVD when I open it in my computer. Other than during the installation of the DVD where it is obvious where the "extras" are [you can see a simple list at that point). From the list below, I am just not sure which file it is I would need to install to have all of these instant project templates install easily and properly. If anyone can explain this to me, please do!!!

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
Hi
I may have confused the issue by mentioning the Extra Content file.
Some versions were cut down, installing the bare essentials, trial versions.
These needed an additional file to complete the installation.
Your files look identical to the ones i used, but check the size of the "setup" folder.
I see it as 1.25 Gb I would think this is the full installation.
I have re-installed my version of X4 to view the installation files, I am using a download file, this extracts files to a temp folder which is used to install the program.
The files I used were the same as the ones you show, the install completed with all content.
So i guess your install would be the same.
--------------------------------
Ok when you click the Instant Templates icon a new window opens showing the available templates.
It defaults to the Beginning library.--- How many templates do you see?
Compare this with both your computers.
------------------
You indicated that the file 26_HM_MultiOverlay track01.wvs was missing from one PC.
What made you look for this file, did you transfer a project between pc's and receive a re-link request.?

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
It appears that you are referring to the BONUS CONTENT that you need to install separately. You can do that by clicking on the BONUS CONTENTS option from the landing page of the AUTORUN Application.
Here's a screen shot of that.

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
Thanks everyone for your help & replies. I was able to open my DVD and get the red autorun landing page you show here BUT when I click on Bonus Contents, there are 3 sections that pop up:
Audio Clips [with file folders -- inside those are MPEG files, movie clips, etc.]
Image Clips [file folders with jpegs]
Video Clips [with wmv files inside]
---But are the instant project templates included in all of this??? I really would like to be able to install and use these.
---Do I just drag and drop these folders somewhere? If so, WHERE so they will be installed properly?
My DVD is the full version. [As I mentioned previously, the project templates I am talking about installed properly onto my laptop, just not onto my desktop for some reason...]

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
Hi
The files in the bonus section are individual images, video and audio clips, not associated with instant templates.
Can you reply to my last post regarding the number of templates you see?
I think the instant project files should have installed correctly, just like the second pc.....

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
Hi
LATA: The files in the bonus section are individual images, video and audio clips, not associated with instant templates.
--That's what I thought... 1) Should I be installing these anyway? 2) Where do I find those instant templates???
Can you reply to my last post regarding the number of templates you see?
--On the DESKTOP (where the program didn't install correctly when I installed it LAST YEAR), when I open the instant project icon this is what is in each folder:
For "Beginning", there are 0 templates;
For the Middle, there are lots of black rectangles & I get a message about re-linking (which I tried to do, but was not successful, so I think things got even more messed up!)
For the Ending, there is ONE PROPERLY INSTALLED instant project template
For "Comeplete", there are again many black rectangles and 1 properly installed template.
vs. on the LAPTOP (where the program seems to have installed correctly, just a few days ago), all of the instant project templates seem to be installed correctly -- if I counted right, there are:
Beginning = 31
Middle = 36
Ending = 33
Complete = 27
[Custom is a whole other issue, but don't worry about that!]
I really wish the program had installed properly last year -- I have made several very involved projects & it would have been so much easier to have those instant project templates! I had no idea so many existed! I used the free extra templates I downloaded from the Corel forum, but there are many that came with the program DVD which would have been perfect. Now I am beginning another large project & would really like to use these. (As I have mentioned, I did manage a work around & was able to install some of them into the Custom folder (which I did on BOTH computers --- when I switch computers for working on my project, I am hoping if I use the templates from these Custom folders the transfer between computers will be seamless (!!!) I still would like to install ALL of these templates properly on my desktop so I can access them later and to lessen the confusion. Any suggestions are welcome.
LATA: I think the instant project files should have installed correctly, just like the second pc.....
I would have thought so too -- and I would just do a re-install except I'm not sure if the forum extra templates I have downloaded & installed would remain AND, if there would be no issue with Corel as far as needing permission to re-install, etc. ... if there's no downside to a re-install, then I would gladly do that!
I really appreciate your continuing to look for a solution to this problem!!! Thank you. db

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
Hi
I use XP but my wife's laptop runs Windows 7. do not use this for my main editing but do have a problem in that I have to run the program in XP compatibility mode.
I have mentioned this to my colleagues but it seems only I have the problem.
Your comments on the re link rings bells for me, if you note the re-link location it may indicate the "Program" folder when it should indicate Program X86 for the 64bit system. I think thats what its called.
Go to the main library and select the images, do you have a similar problem with re-linking?
Can you try XP Compatibility mode.
Right click the Video Studio launch icon select properties-compatibility tab

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
FWIW, I have X5 installed on my HP laptop listed in my Profile, using 64 bit Win 7. I have the same number of Instant Projects, under the various headings, exactly the same as listed by Coreldb above. Unfortunately, I don't have Win 7 64 bit installed on any of my desktops, so I can't make any comparison.

Re: Video Studio instant project templates DIDN'T INSTALL
PROBLEM SOLVED.... UPDATE: The re-install of the VS program [from my DVD] was the solution for the missing instant project templates -- I was forced to do this because of a new problem (on another post in this forum) -- my project will not open. BUT, with the re-install, it looks like all of the templates are properly installed this time... Downside is I need to re-build my photo library of over 800 pictures & video clips for this project and I have lost my previous media libraries. I am hoping someone on this forum will have a solution for how to get my project to open (& why it won't, even after a complete un-install and re-install of the program & service packs.) Thanks...
