VS 8 - How do I do a clean install?
I have VS8 with all the known patches installed running on WinXP. Everything was going fine but for some reason now I can't play anything in VS8. I want to be able to play video so I can see if I'm editing at the right place. Does anyone know all the things I need to do so I can do a clean install - all the folders and stuff that I need to remove??

There's information on doing a manual uninstall in the UVS 8 Technical FAQ that will probably do what you want:

Did you make any other changes recently, such as updating video drivers or installing a codec pack? Try downloading [url=http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=41&release_id=58]Sherlock 2.0[/ur] and use it to check for broken audio and video codecs.

I ran Sherlock and this might be a problem, although I don't know. It said I had a problem with the Ulead AMR Audio Codec and the DivX Decoder Filter. When I went and clicked on them it said something like information on those codecs could not be found so they might not be installed. I'm going to see if I have DivX saved somewhere or download it again. As for the Ulead Audio Codec... I'm going to have to look around and see what to do. Thanks again!

I don't remember when I installed Sherlock, so I'd be afraid of losing important stuff if I rolled back. I've never done that before. If you do that does it delete stuff after the date of install? And anyway, Sherlock has nothing to do with what's wrong with VS. Way back when I started to have the problem I could have done a roll back but now, I'd rather not. I love the product, can't stand that I can't figure out how to make everything work.
