VS X3 reinstallation issue

Post by gms9810 »

Hi all,
I just had a problem X3 not seeing my dvd drive. It's always worked in the past so I figured something was missing. I uninstalled everything then tried to reinstall it. The installer stopped and told me that my configuration files were corrupt and to try again later. I uninstalled it with revo uninstaller, then followed up with ccleaner then tried to reinstall it but am getting the same results. Can anyone enlighten me as to how to fix this problem? I really need X3 working right now. By the way I'm using Windows 7 professional.
PS: I've also tried the Corel cleanup tool, same results.
Additional stuff I have and use most:
Gimp, Inkscape, Xara extreme 5, Swish max, Swish studio, Swish Swish video, Audacity, TurboCAD 15, Mypaint, Xnview, and I have a bamboo pen & touch.
I use a LOT of other stuff too.

Hi

If the install files are corupt there is little we can do............
Do you have a backup installation file?
Was it purchased on disc or download.

The installation files are extracted to a temporary folder, should be auto removed after install, if they exist delete these then try a new install.
Search for %temp%
I find them here C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temp (windows XP)

Try creating a new user account on your PC with admin rights.
Install from new account, if successful you should be able to remove the User Account

If you can't get into Documents and Settings I would say you have major system problems.

Hi gms9810

The files/folders you are looking for may be hidden by the operating system

Open any folder
click the Tools menu--Folder options
View tab

from the list select Show Hidden Files and Folders

Installing the program, another thought?
Try coping the disc content to a folder on your hard drive, then install from those files.

I've been through all of the hidden files and deleted anything that had ulead on it (I don't have any other Ulead products so that should be safe), did a registry search for Ulead and deleted every entry with Ulead in it.
I'll try copying the dvd to my hard drive and installing from there.

Hi

The program is called Corel Video Studio

The temp installation folder i mentioned will be called Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 or something similar.

Yes Corel do still use some Ulead files when installing the program but the majority are Corel files?

Did you try the option to create a new user account on your PC?

Hi gms9810

Yes I do understand your problem and that the program used to work.
You are now having problems re-installing the program.

When you start to install the installation file creates temporary files and uses these to install the program. After which they are removed, if not subsequent installs will use the old files.
if they are corrupt then you need to delete them to allow new files to be generated.

The files reside in the temp folder, by searching for %temp% should locate this folder.
If it contains a folder related to Corel Video Studio then delete them.
This may not be the problem but you do need to make sure these have been removed
---------------------------
I mentioned creating another User Account, this will create a new empty Temp folder, allowing the new files to be created.

Now try to install the program.

You can remove the new account reverting your system back to normal.

I tried making a new account and installing it, still didn't work. I have no assurance that if I buy x5 the same thing won't happen again. Corel's customer service is a sad joke. I'm seriously thinking about buying Arcsoft's ShowBiz. It's the same price, the features are comparable, the dvd buring is a lot better, and they have real customer support. In buying X3 I wasted my money. Corel seems to think if they stop supporting one product people will be forced to upgrade. I won't be bullied.

Gimp, Inkscape, Xara extreme 5, Swish max, Swish studio, Swish Swish video, Audacity, TurboCAD 15, Mypaint, Xnview, and I have a bamboo pen & touch.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem gms9810,

You mention you that you have the installer on DVD, is your VS X3 originally a download version then you copied the installer on a DVD or you purchased the boxed edition of VS X3? If it's the download version then you just copied it on a DVD, you may need to redownload it from your Corel.com account - http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... d-My-Order

If it's the later then you may need to check if you also removed any traces of VS X3 registry key before installing the program again - http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... dio-Pro-X3

Hi Abiel

Thanks for the info, one question, how do we--Joe Public find this information?

When we search the Knowledge Base there is no references to Video Studio X3 or earlier versions.
Maybe I am just doing it wrong

You would have thought searching for "000004644" would find the article

Upps
Ok guess I am doing it wrong, I searched without using the Which product filters and had some success
