No video capture driver

Post by thejez »

Corel VSX4 now says "Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or do device is connected" now I am unable to capture new video from any source. W7 64B and I have downloaded the latest updates.

Sources such as???

Are you actually "capturing" (analog or streaming digital), or "transfering" (digital files/data) from a camera? How are you connected? Firewire? USB?

With many digital cameras, I believe you should be able to simpy drag/copy the files from your camera to your hard drive and open it for editing.

I can't even capture video stored on my CPU- but I can see videos when I open up past projects. I am using USB though.

It would be extremely helpful if you describe step by step exactly what you are doing to "capture" video. For video already on your computer, for instance, you do not "capture", but instead simply use "Insert" i.e. right click in the VS timeline and select "Insert Media", then navigate to the folder where the video is stored and select the clips you want. They should then open in the timeline. Or you can do the same thing in the library window, then drag and drop the clips into the timeline.

With many AVCHD and other camcorders using either a hard drive or USB card, you can also use the same method since the camera drive is seen as another drive by your computer. But as DVDDoug has already suggested, even with those camcorders it is often better or easier to use whatever software that came with the camera to transfer the video to your computer then open as suggested above using Insert.

An actual "Capture" is usually restricted these days to DV/HDV camcorders which use Firewire, or from other capture devices used for capturing analogue videos.

So as I said earlier, tell us exactly what you are doing and we may be able to help you better. As it is, we are only guessing.

Thanks guys,

I click on the capture tab (In order to import video files to use from my cpu) and the message pops up about the drivers that I mentioned. I proceed to go to folder that contains stored videos (c drive/my vdieos ect) and I am unable to see any video to add to a new or existing project. its like Videopro can no longer read my files. I will try the right click instead idea when I get home though- but I have always been able to import my video from the capture tab.

You do not use capture to make use of video that already exists on your computer. If you want to use those videos you use insert.

Just to add to what canuck said.. you can do that on VS X4 via INSERT MEDIA TO TIMELINE > INSERT VIDEO from there locate the videos saved on your CPU or computer.

As for the capture error message, it would be helpful if you tell us the name of your capture device/camera and model if available. Also if you are using a camcorder, you can visit http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... ring-Video for additional information on capturing video using VS X4.
