CMYK conversion & Help access

Post by fotojrb »

It's time for my annual conversion of a couple of files to CMYK, and I've forgotten how it's done. Would someone be so kind as to remind me? (The last time I did it I was using X2.)

I would have looked it up in Help, but most of the time I'm unable to access Help. I get an "Unable to connect to server" error. Does anyone else get this or have a related problem? Is there a solution?

Many thanks.

That one I know, but I don't want CMYK separations. I just want to save in CMYK mode, as can be done in Photoshop.

you can save as a TIFF and select CMYK as the color space to save the file. You do that by SaveAs, then in the menu select .tif as the extension, which provides an 'options' box. In the options box you'll get the choice to save as CMYK. If that's all you want to do, then that should solve your problem.

However, unlike Photoshop, you can't select CMYK as a working color space per se, you're limited to the channel separations AFAIK. If you open the saved .tif file in PSP, it will tell you that the file was saved in CMYK mode, but also tell you that the working space is RGB. Upon opening you are still working in RGB space AFAIK. If you try to select a different working space I think all the choices are RGB based options.

In Photoshop you can change the working color space to CMYK and see the pixel values in that coordinate system, etc. I don't think there's a way to do exactly that in PSP, I'm not 100% sure its impossible, but if it is possible I don't know how to do it.

PSP has always been a RGB program and can't do the same as 10x more expensive Photoshop. Because of the new image engine, PSPX4 opens CMYK pictures with a similar RGB colour space. Using a CMYK colour profile will crash PSP. There is no way to turn PSP into a Photoshop replacement. If you need CMYK, buy professional programs like Draw (Photo-Paint) or Photoshop.

Thank you very much for your post as it clearly states that Corel is not worth its price and how elitist and insulting their employees are.

If ever you were assigned to offer support for my products I would refuse such assistance.

Corel should seriously consider dismissal of personnel with such attitudes as yours.

Offending the client is definitely not the right way to get your point across and highly unprofessional.

Were I you I would not post that I work for the company.
In your case it is not a very intelligent thing to do given your lack of skills in customer relations.

I am not sure this meets the requirements you have for the images you want to save as CMYK but there are online conversion tools such as this one located here: http://www.rgb2cmyk.org/

and there is always Google for more: https://www.google.com/search?q=freewar ... =firefox-a  Search parameters "freeware convert to cmyk".
... Can always Google it!

I find nothing offensive in Simone's calm, reasoned response.
She is stating the facts - Photoshop is about 10x the price of PSP and as such, Corel is worth its price and has its limitations such as the handling of CMYK.

Thank you very much for your post as it clearly shows how self-centered and insulting some users are.

If ever such a person attempted to buy one of my products, I would refuse that purchase.

Companies should seriously consider revoking the license of users like that.

Misunderstanding reasonable explanations and offending the responder is not the right way to get one's point across and is highly obnoxious.

Were I you I would post an apology. In your case, you've demonstrated a lack of intelligence and lack of skills in basic reasoning and discussion.

Quite simply if you want a program that does all that photoshop does, go amd spend the 10X more and get that program. PSP is a basic level program meant for all those that want to get into photo editing at a basic level, BUT it has a lot of the more commonly used features of photoshop, or work arounds and for a very reasonable price. It also has a some features that photo lacks (but there are some work arounds for Photoshop).
PSP does all the basic operations in a very economical and intuitive way compared with photoshop and is much easier to use.
I also get tired of people that want a photoshop equivalent for peanuts, and then threaten to go back to photoshop if the feature is not there.

Once you've used Image...Split Channel...Split to CMYK, simply reverse the procedure by using Image...Combine Channel...Combine from CMYK. That will create a new image that is similar to the CMYK "Soft Proof" option found in Corel PhotoPaint.
