Unexplained error message when burning blue ray disc

Post by stockj »

I have finished editing a video project and when I come to burn it to a blue ray disc it runs right through the process but at the completion gives a message "unexplained error". When I try and play the disc in either a blue ray player or normal DVD player it will not run. I can see that some data has been burnt onto the disc by the colour change of the burnt section. The project I am trying to burn is about 15gb onto a 25gb disc.

By way of diagnostics I have tried burning the first couple of GB of the project onto a normal DVD and that works fine, I have also burnt the project to a Blue ray folder on the PC and that appears to have worked fine although I am not sure what all the different files are in the folder there is approx 15gb of data in the folder. To make sure my blue ray writer is working properly I have burned 20gb of still photo data onto a blue ray disc and it runs ok in the blue ray player.

Any ideas anyone as wasted blue ray disc make expensive coasters

I have no real idea about your problem. You need to give us more information about the properties of the original videos in your project. And did you first, in the editing module, convert the edited project to a Blu-Ray file; or did you jump immediately into the burning module to burn the disc?

To save making coasters, you might also want to consider creating a Blu-Ray folder on the final page of the burning module, instead of burning to an actual disc. That way you can preview the final product using a software Blu-Ray player, and check whether it is OK or not. Then you can use either VS to re-burn the actual disc, or if it is OK, burn the folder using a program like Nero or the free ImgBurn...

Your post is somewhat confusing. Did you set up to create a "Blue Ray" project? If you created a Blue Ray disc you obviously can't play it on a standard DVd player?
Generally file size is not very important, important is the timelength and the project settings that you choose. So saying that you are "trying to burn 15GB onto a 25GB disc" does not tell us very much.

Also what does "I have tried burning the first couple of GB of the project onto a normal DVD and that works fine" mean. A DVD project and a BlueRay project are quite a bit different.

Does you BlueRay folder play using a software player? If yes then there is nothing wrong wit the creation of the BlueRay video and the problem lies with the actual burn process.
Until you come back with some specific details on what you are doing, everything is just guesswork in trying to correct your problem.
