Poor quality VOB files

Poor quality VOB files
I created a video in Video Studio Pro 5. I published to a MPEG4 file to play back and check my results. The file opened with Quicktime and the video looked fine. So I went ahead and burned the video to a DVD using the Share feature, where it created a VOB file. When the VOB file opens in Windows Media Player, it loses resolution. The worst parts of the fuzzy video are the MPEG4 files that I imported into video studio. They are 1080 HD files so I thought they should look ok and, in fact, they look fine in Quicktime. But I also imported JPG's and they look fuzzy as well. How can I burn to a DVD without losing resolution?

Re: Poor quality VOB files
When you burn to a standard DVD the resolution will be 740x480 (at best quality) no matter what you original source quality is. If you started with HD quality then of course the final result will be lower resolution and quality.Lindam wrote:I created a video in Video Studio Pro 5. Re: Poor quality VOB files
Hi
After completing the project instead of creating a Mpeg4 create a Mpeg2 file.
Share Create Video file -DVD-DVD 16:9 (for a one hour duration)
Mpeg 2 files are used to burn Standard DVD's , Play this video file to view the quality.
To burn the disc.................
Start a new project, nothing in the timeline
Share create disc, opens the burner module
Now add media files-Add Video, add the Mpeg2
Choose to burn a DVD Folder or Disc Image, play on the PC, then burn a disc, may save on making those coasters.

Re: Poor quality VOB files
Unfortunately this made it worse. Any other suggestions?
Re: Poor quality VOB files
After re-reading your suggestion, I went back and published again with the 16:9, as you suggested. I missed that the first time I read your reply. I created an Mpeg2 and reburned the DVD. It is not worse this time but still fuzzy,

Re: Poor quality VOB files
Hi
Maybe its an interlacing issue.....
What are the properties of your original video file.?
You mention HD 1080, these should use either Frame Based or Upper Field, i Frame Based use Make Movie Templates Manager to create a new template.
canuck did mention that converting hd to standard DVD will reduce quality, the frame size of 1920 will be reduced to 720
----------------------------------
When you create the new DVD Mpeg 2 file you must add this to an empty burner module.
The file is a compliant DVD Mpeg2 and will not be re-coded. When you press burn the process should start with Convert Menu, if you see Convert Title then the video is being re coded, not required.
Run a test and create a Disc Image, play this on VCL Player

Re: Poor quality VOB files
I am not sure if I understand your reply. But I do have another question. My original file was an MEPG4 (1080hd) that I imported into Corel as a video clip. Should I re-create that original as a MPEG2, re-import into Corel, relink, and THEN follow the rest of your instructions for republishing as MPEG2 and reburning the CD?

Re: Poor quality VOB files
Hi
To burn a standard DVD the disc uses Mpeg2 type files, these have to be compliant using the industries standard settings.
Using Share Create Video file - DVD will create a compliant file. However it should reflect some of your original files properties. in particular the frame order, Your video file will either use Frame Based or Upper Field. Using the SlideShow option will use Frame Based.
The Data Rate of 8000kbps will allow for 60 minutes of video, if your project is longer, then the Data Rate has to be reduced which will allow more minutes per disc.
OK
You add the original files to the timeline, edit the project, How long is the project?
To burn a disc there are two approaches:-
Option one.....
Convert the project to a Compliant Mpeg2, This allows you to play the completed video on the pc to check quality, then Start a New project, Share Create Disc Add Video File. The burn process will complete without further rendering of the video file.
Option two.....
After editing the project, with the project open in the timeline, Go directly to Share Create Disc
This opens the Burner Module with the project showing in the timeline, this is a project file not a video file which has to be converted to a Mpeg2, the conversion will take place during the burn process, and shows as Convert Title.
The settings used in this conversion can be set under the Options Cogwheel, lower left.

Re: Poor quality VOB files
Hi Brian I am trying to create a slideshow with transitions and music, I get as far as the burning stage and then I get an error message.
I tried to burn an disc image but it only shows as "Convert Title", I have been trying to sort this for 3 days and still am at a loss as this lside show is from a friends wedding and I was hoping to give it to them this weekend.
Regards
Rob

Re: Poor quality VOB files
right - "convert title" is just one stage in the process of taking your project and burning it to disc - normally the programme would step through the stages in the burn module without any help from you - moving from convert title to burning the disc on it,s own.
so I assume your programme is sticking on the convert title stage - what we suggest to users in that case is to break the process into stages and that is what Trevor (Lata) is suggesting above.
First stage - when you have finished editing save your project - then go to "Share >> Create video File" then choose DVD and from there make a choice appropriate to your needs - give it a title and select OK to render out a single compliant video file which you can now test in any other programme - like Windows media player for instance to ensure you have a good video file.
When you have a good file open VideoStudio with nothing at all in it - when you now go "Share" you will only have the option "Create disc" choose that and then 'DVD' - now using the icons at the top left of the burn window import the new video file to the burn module timeline - continue from there to create DVD folders or an iso file - do not waste a disc by trying to burn direct.
if you create folders you can choose to check them first by using any software DVD player (eg WinDVD) if you succesfully create folders you can copy them to a DVD to make a disc or if you create a .iso file then go to "tools >> burn from disc image" within VideoStudio.
If you have problems along the way note any error messages and come back here.
