Few questions

Post by HighFlyerPL185 »

Hello there,

I have decided to obtain Corel, after Sony Vegas gave me stability issues with Fraps. I'm hoping it's better on Corel VideoStudio Pro X5. Anyhoo, I have a few questions regarding the editing itself, as I'm struggling to find options that were present in SV 10.

1. In the preview mode, my video seems to have a 16:9 size rather than the full size. I want to make sure that the video it's in it's full size in the preview and during saving. How can I accomplish this?
2. The zooming on the timeline - is the zoom bar above the timeline the only option to zoom in and out? It seems to me, and I'm not sure if also to others, very impractical. Is there a way to use the scrolling on the mice?
3. Let's assume I have NewBlueFX, which I do, but I only want to apply it to a certain part of the clip. Is there a way to do this, or do I have to cut the clip and obtain the part I'm looking for?

Thank you, kind regards
BrianCee

What size is your video then if it is not 16:9 - do you mean you want the display 4:3 ?

you cannot use the mouse for zooming - but you can use the keyboard '+' and '-' keys.

If you want to apply any effect at all to just a part of a video then you need to cut the video each end of the section.

you can download a free 30 day trial from the Corel website and see if it does what you want.

Hi

Sorry Brian but yes can use the mouse to Zoom the timeline, place the mouse on the grey area just to the left of the zoom options, then scroll the mouse wheel.

With the mouse over the grey area, right click for further zoom options.

I simply use the + and - signs, seems to work for me, guess its what you are used to........
-------------------------
As for the video size, right click your clip in the timeline and select properties , what are they?

I want just to be able to get rid of black lines at the top and the bottom of the preview, so the actual video is full screen, but so far I only found it for the pictures  I also have one other question, as I was experimenting with the overlay titles, I actually can't fade out the title itself? Instead, the entire project fades out. I've attached a picture as we all know, pictures speak a thousand words :P

The properties of the clip are:

Compression: Lagarith Lossless Codec
Attributes: 24 bits, 1600 x 838
Total frames: 1,746

Thanks for your replies so far and for the zoom, it's more convenient :)

Hi

The black lines to the left and right are either unused portions of the preview screen or part of your video file.
I have just noticed you using a WMV from the library, these are 4:3 ratio, well nearly, the preview screen is set for 16:9, so effectively unused portions,
Press Settings-deselect Enable Widescreen
The WMV are not 4:3 so now you will see black bars top and bottom. Hmmm

Your Video file is 1600 x 838 this is not 16:9, to be honest a strange size, it will show a border top and bottom, you can get rid by using the Distort option.

The workstation consists of several panels, you can re-size each panel or detach them, allowing them to float.

Place the mouse on the narrow black bar to the right of the preview screen and drag.
If the bars are part of the video then you are not going to remove them by resizing the screen.

Your project properties Alt+Enter - Edit-General Tab should show the same aspect ratio as your video file.
-------------------

When you have moved the panels, restore defaults by hitting F7

--------------------

As an aside, go to F6 Preferences, set Clip Display Mode to Thumbnail only and your clips will show the frames in the timeline.

Whilst you have this panel open, change the background colour will identify the actual preview frame.

---------------------

Titles, place them in the title track,
Press the Options to open the Panel, Attributes tab
Animate title, choose Fade, then click the adjacent "TT" for a manual approach.
