Bamboo tablet

Post by Slowdog »

I have Pro x4 and the Bamboo Fun tablet. The pen works briefly; then it stops working at all. I tried the tablet and pen with Elements 6, and it works perfectly on my new Windows 7 computer.
I have downloaded Service Pack 2, but that didn't fix it. I talked to Corel over 3 months ago and they admitted there is a problem, but they haven't fixed it yet.

Has anybody had this problem or have any advice on how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not able to find that post but somewhere here fix similar problem by removing the Bamboo driver and just use the generic Windows 7 driver. I sure the moderator will be able to find that thread.

I remember it being the other way around. Turn off Windows 7 tablet services.

Go to your Control Panel - Add or Remove programs - on the left there will be an option to add or remove Windows services.

Another thing that has worked for some people is to use an older driver rather than the current one from Wacom. Not a generic one, just back a version or two.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

Hello, LeviFiction,
Thanks for the suggestion - however, I did not find that any Windows 7 tablet services were listed under the programs, so I guess that's out.

Hello, LindaSue,
I was unable to reinstall my old Bamboo Fun Pen tablet driver v. 5.08. I don't think it is compatible with Windows 7. I believe that the Wacom people had me download a driver from the internet that would install under Windows 7.

Corel has been aware of this problem for several months and is supposed to be working on a solution to the problem with the 4th generation Bamboo tablets. They said that Service Pack 2 would help, but it didn't.

I appreciate all your suggestions.

Bruce, I said off to the left is a "Turn Windows features on or off" link under the Uninstall or Change a Program control panel.

It's a special dialog dedicated to removing Windows specific features, not just programs.

Maybe these will help

First open the Control Panel for Adding and Removing Programs and look to the left

Then scroll down until you find Tablet PC features and uncheck it, then hit okay.

LeviFiction,

Thanks for the reply. I actually had gone into that window and the box was not checked, so I didn't do anything further with it.

Open PSP, reinstall the tablet driver with PSP open, then when it's done PSP should work. That's what I've had to resort to doing.

I know this may sound like a bit of a dumb question but are you sure the pen has stopped working? Some tools may not seem to work with the pen because of various settings. You may find one brush works ok. Then the next one doesn't. Making it seem like it has failed.

Check the following. File/Preferences/Miscellaneous. Make sure 'Disable pressure support for puck type pointing devices' is checked.
Then open a photo.
Select a tool such as the Eraser. Open the Palettes and open Brush Variance. In the Brush Variance set every thing to 'Normal'. Try this for any tool that may not seem to be working. (Actually I would set all the tools to Normal). Once you determined that this is, or is isn't, the problem then you can selectively reset them to your satisfaction if it is the problem.

I had similar issues to you and I found that this cured my problems. (I'm working with PSPx4, SP2 and Win 7).

Brucet,

Thanks - I have checked this out before. The pen works perfectly on Elements 6, but not on PSP 4.

DF,

Thanks - I tried the reinstall with PSP open and it still didn't work.

Corel promised they were working on the KNOWN problem, and has not come up with a solution yet.

I appreciate everyone's input.
