unreadable frame in X5
I am trying to create a video file for the 1st time with VS X5.The project is 27 mins long and includes jpeg images and avi
clips that I have used successfully with VS11+, and film that I have taken with my camera which I have been using for years. It is not HD and I intended to burn a standard DVD.However, at 99% of rendering a message showed saying "Frame 329 is unreadable".I pressed ok.Nothing is showing in the folder that it was hopefully being saved to .Lwr field 1st-DVD PAL-7000 video data rate-384 audio data rate-save as mpeg files -----all properties I have used before with no problem. My only change is now to use 16.9 aspect ratio. Can any one rescue me please.............Ken

Re: unreadable frame in X5
Frame 329 is 13 seconds and 4 frames into the movie. What do you have around that point on the timeline? Strange, though, that the rendering goes all the way to 99%, almost 27 minutes of movie, before showing that message.
What happens if you set a range for the project (under the preview window) for the first 15 seconds, then create an MPEG-2 file using the "range" option?

Re: unreadable frame in X5
The imported clip in question, which I have used numerous times before, has the following properties- vsp.mpg PAL DVD- Mpeg2 video- lwr field 1st -25 fps date- rate 7000-24bit 720x576 AR 4.3 -duration of 20sec-18644Kb I rendered all the above clip again from the project and it has been saved in the named folder. Its properties are movie clip- name-Test.mpg-47.4Mb Could I just delete the” offending” frame ? If so how do I access that. In the timeline.

Re: unreadable frame in X5
You can go directly to that frame by using the timecode. It's the clock like option that you'll see at the lower right corner of the Preview Window.
You can check the screen shot that I made below.

Re: unreadable frame in X5
Considering the info in my previous post, is this frame really the problem? If it is recommeded that I delete it to solve the rendering problem- how do I actually select the frame to delete it?

Re: unreadable frame in X5
In an attempt to locate the frame I went to settings- preferences-gen tab-clip display mode-thumbnail only .This displayed the clip segregated by 20 divisions but there was no way to indivualise each frame and so delete it(if that would solve the problem anyway).Failing this, is there any point in replacing the clip with its replacement that I earlier rendered again by inserting it in the the overlay track so that it part of the project and not the original

Hi Kenneth
In your second post you listed the types of files used in your project, can you confirm just what files are being used.
Go to Preferences (F6)--Change the display Clip Mode to File Names Only
Then view the project in timeline view will show the names .
Tell us what they are and do you see any using VSP as part of the name.

Re: unreadable frame in X5
Hi Kenneth
The VSP files may be of concern, by adding these to a project, into another VSP you are nesting projects, not a problem if you intended doing this. Otherwise the nested VSP may be at fault.
You should be able to open the nested VSP's using Video Studio.
First right click the vsp within the timeline and select "locate on Computer" a folder will open showing the file.
Using Video Studio -- File -- Open Project, navigate to this file and open it.
Do you have any problems, re-link requests etc.
Do this for all VSP types you find in the main project

Re: unreadable frame in X5
Located 1st vsp clip (at start of project, which I have used numerous times before in VS 11+ with no problems) tried to open new project but file was not in the folder, typed file name in but it showed file not found. The next and 2nd clip being a vsp file
was located in the same folder, opened and palyed with no problem. But whilst looking for the 2nd clip in the same folder I noticed that the 1st clip was in the list.So I opened a project using the 2nd clip to view the located folder, the 1st clip then opened and played with no problem.Hope this makes sense!...............Ken

Re: unreadable frame in X5
Hi Kenneth
If you use nesting as you seem to have done, then each VSP should open in its own right, without problems.
I am not sure from your explanation but you seem to have nested several VSP's.
But as I say each should open without problems. If you have problems with any VSP files then correct the problems before you nest.
Besides I would recommend that you do not nest VSP's but render them to a single video file, use the single file in your projects.

Re: unreadable frame in X5
If nesting is using prevoiusly used vsp files in a new project then that is what I have done as I have done with the same two files many times using VS11+.The 2 vsp files happen to be the 1st two clips in the project so I will follow your advice and
render them as a new file and see if that works.I cant understand why they are (or it) are causing this problem now in X5 when this has never happened before, especially when I have been able to play both files separately with no hitches

Re: unreadable frame in X5
Still no further.
On attempting to sort the .vsp into a project file, I suffered a blue screen crash.,I got a reply from the error report after windows had recovered. Microsoft sent a reply saying it could have been caused by a device or driver. It suggested steps to solve the problem. So I checked the C: and G:(Media) drives, if any problems were found it did not say but I set it to auto fix file system errors + attempt recovery of bad sectors. I did not do a system restore as I have not loaded any new software.I did a full system virus scan-there were not any.I tried to access the event viewer but could not find how to.I rendered the 2 vsp files and used them in the project, this would have been where frame 329 would have been.I added some more jpeg images to the project which was now 45 mins long.On attempting to render, at 99% it took ages to (about half hour) to move.During this time anti virus scan had started up in the background. This did not affect anything . After a while, still at 99% I tried to disable the scan, to try and speed things up, it would not respond, so I went to the task manager to end it.Then I noticed the VS was not responding, I closed the task manager. Went back to it then VS was running.
I have written all this because it happened, hope it is not all a red herring .But the bottom line is I am using Corel’s latest VS version and I am unable to render a project because it is still telling a frame no 329 in unreadable when it is because I have rendered it outside the project I am using at the moment.
So, what can I do to now? .................. I am not a very happy bunny

Re: unreadable frame in X5
Hi Kenneth
I am sorry to hear you are having problems with the PC and a blue screen crash.
I doubt that this is causing the problem with Video Studio and the project.
When you say "I rendered the 2 vsp files and used them in the project" we assume you replaced the Nested VSP's with the new video file.
Your main project would no longer be using nested VSP's, is this correct?
