X3 Freezing

Post by MarjV »

Lately my X3 has been freezing up everyday at least once.
I've been keeping the clipboard cleared so I don't understand what is going on.

And the last time it didn't give me the images back I had open.

Have you installed all 5 patches?

X3 had the dreaded "out of memory" error, PSP isn't releasing memory back to the system when you close an image and the memory gets all used up. This will cause the program to freeze, but you should get a pop-up with the error stated. If you've installed all 5 patches and you suspect this is the problem there is a free third party program that can help. http://www.majorgeeks.com/CleanMem_d5993.html The program itself doesn't solve the memory issue, but it uses Windows own memory management system to do it by putting it on a schedule (I've set it up to clean the memory every 5 minutes). PSP X3 will only use up to 2gb of RAM before it stalls completely, it's a common limit to 32 bit programs. If you're working with large files or you are using a lot of layers this can get used up rather quickly.

Thanks, Dan
1- I've installed any patches that have come along. How can I tell if I've installed all 5?

2- I don't get any error messaage when X3 freezes - just along the top line it says PSP has stopped responding.

I will certainly try that program you mention. Since you use it tha is much safer than
downloading any old program found on Google. And if it doesn't help I can always unistall.

Basically use PSP for creating graphics using tubes, etc.

Thanks again,
MARJ

You need to check your version, when you start the program, to see which Service Pack you are at, and which ones you need:

For PSPPX3 (Paint Shop Photo Pro 13):
SP1- 13.0.0.253
SP2 - 13.2.0.35
SP3 - 13.2.1.15
SP4 - 13.2.1.20
SP5 - 13.2.1.32

Service Packs are not cumulative (except for maybe SP1-SP2, in some cases). They need to be installed in order. All the Service Packs for X3 are available here.

You may want to reset your workspace. You can do that by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double-click on the PSP icon then when you received the message "DO YOU WAN TO RESTORE PAINTSHOP Pro TO ITS DEFAULT STATE?" just click OK.
