VS Pro X2 no likee Win 7
Previously advised that "some features would not work with Win 7. Captured my project, editied etc and so far so good. However, when you select, Share, Create DVD etc all hell breaks loose. You can insert your mpeg but it doesn't let you create chapters, menus, or even more fundamentally, simply burn DVD.
Bit of a wide definintion of "some features may be disabled!

Hi
all hell breaks loose, is a little strong, I would say that not much happens.....
There was an issue where the next/back buttons that navigated the pages was not showing.
I also believe that the icons lower left were also missing, i see three, Settings and Options, Project settings and 16:9/4:3
Try using the keyboard shortcut Alt+ N (next) and Alt +B (back)
Have you applied all patches provided for X2
There is a link to the corel site at the top of this forum Updates and Patches
Can you please update your profile to include your PC specification, then we will know what pc you have?

Thanks Trevor
Thought I had installed patches but wil check again. Yes you end up in loop where you just go next and then back so you can't get to the burn module. There is also no video in the add/edit chapter for you to use with the jog wheel.
Very frustrating.
Worked like a charm with Vista.

Hi
I did a little more digging and found this info
000004576 - The 'Next' button is not active when creating a DVD, AVCHD or other disc in VideoStudio Pro X2 on Windows 7
However the link on that page did not work???
Try
http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=1300014
Patch 2 seems specific to Windows 7

Re: VS Pro X2 no likee Win 7
Hi again Trevor
Installed the second patch but still no good. Even if you ignore the problem with the chapter and menue creation you just can't progress from the first screen when you chose Share/Create Disk and inserted your project file etc. Keep clicking next but then the next screen only allows you to go back etc. I wonder if anyone has got this product to run with Win 7?
Thanks anyway.

Hi
The problem with Windows 7 and the Next button was that it just did not show, there was no next button, you seem to say that you can see the button on the first page.
The next button becoming available when there is content in the timeline.
Selecting "next" takes you to the Gallery and Edit tabs, providing the Edit Menu is selected under the Advanced tab. It should be selected by default.
Otherwise you are taken to the Preview page then last page
When you navigate to the last screen, that's the one that contains the Burn button that is as far as it goes, from there you can only go back. But by now you should have created the menu and ready to burn a disc.
------------------------------
Creating Chapter Points
Can you explain just how far you have got in creating Chapters
-------------------------
If you think it will help I can do a series of screen shots for you to compare with your windows.

Re: VS Pro X2 no likee Win 7
Hi Trevor
I’m obviously not articulating this clearly so apologies for that. This is my sequence of events:
• I insert my project into the Add Media Screen
• I then select Add/Edit Chapter
• I get the superimposed Add/Edit Chapter screen. At this point the video file is shown at the bottom but this does not appear in the main window. All the options, except add auto chapter are greyed out. The jog wheel doesn’t respond since there is no video showing.
• When I give up and select ok I go back to the Add Media screen and then select next (this is visible but half of the N is missing!)
• This takes me to the Galley and Edit screen. When I select all menus only seven appear (I’m sure there were more originally). The “Advanced settings” (is this your advanced tab?) has title menu ticked but create chapter is greyed out with nothing selected. I guess this is consistent with earlier issue. At the bottom of this screen Next has become back so you just go back to Add Media screen. If I ignore the Add/Edit option and click next I go to Gallery and Edit screen with the only option to go back and collect $200 for passing Go.
I’ve used VS X2 for eons with Vista burning countless projects. I’m from the old school where you were brought up to follow the three eternal truths (clear timeline, set video properties to match capture, create video file etc etc) so am not naive about this process.
Just don’t want to spend $60 for upgrading to Pro X200 if it can be avoided.
Many thanks for your interest.

Re: VS Pro X2 no likee Win 7
By any chance, does your video start with a black fade-in? I ask because mine usually do for about 2 seconds. Thus what appears first in the Add/Edit Chapter screen is blackness, giving the impression there is nothing there. But in reality it is the start of Chapter 1. And if you then drag the slider below that preview screen to the right, you get an actual image as you move into the video proper. Then the Add Chapter button becomes active.
Does clicking Alt+N do anything in your case?

Re: VS Pro X2 no likee Win 7
Just checked again. The window remains blank and the jog wheel does not respond. I did note one thing though. My project file was shown as 9.6Gb and too big for a standard DVD. This is strange as the project is only 90 mins. With newer cams the captured format is mpeg 2 so the renedering process is done before you capture-Is that right? I.e you don't need to create mpeg from native avi etc. I ask as projects of this duration were always about 3Gb as opposed to the 9.6Gb. Am I right in thinking that you can just drop your project file into the Add Media screen rather than have to create an mpeg of the mpeg so to speak.
Thanks

Re: VS Pro X2 no likee Win 7
Hi
Yes you can add a VSP project file to the burner module, but i have always finished my projects by converting them to a Mpeg, then use the Mpeg to add to the burner module.
At the top of the first window is the option to Add Media, make sure you choose the correct icon.
The left hand one being foe Video Files, the second is marked as VSP.
If you add a project file VSP then this will be converted to a Mpeg prior to burning the disc, the files being saved to a temp folder. The settings used to to create the file can be seen under the Options Cogwheel, lower left of the panel below the DVD 4.7G, its these settings that determine the size of the video file, you may wish to look at these to see why you are seeing 9.6Gb
Apologies regarding the reference to “Advanced settings” (is this your advanced tab?) "Doh no" my brain was in X5 mode

With newer camcorders the video format is often HD. If you are creating a standard DVD then of course the video has to be rendered "down" to the DVD format.
A standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at the best quality (uses a bitrate of around 8000kbs). To get longer videos on a DVD you have to reduce the bitrate and will lose quality.
To get 90 minutes down to 3GB you must have used a low bitrate and lost a lot of quality.

Re: VS Pro X2 no likee Win 7
Hi
A standard DVD holds 4.3 Gb of data
as a guide
an Mpeg2 file using 8000kpbs will allow for 60 minutes per disc---high DVD quality
Using 6000kbps will allow 90 minutes per disc--good dvd quality
Using 4000kbps will allow for 120 minutes of video---VHS quality
Ok so using Digital Dolby rather than LPCM audio will help reducing the file sizes.
When we add a project a vsp, this is not a compliant video file and needs re-coding/rendering to Mpeg2.
The settings used to do this can be seen under the Options Cogwheel.
By default X2 (VS12) will use 8000kbps.
You can customise these settings to match the length of the project, you say that your project is 90 minutes long, so a bit rate of 6000kbps ish should reduce the size shown on the timeline to within the green bands, the project should fit to disc.
The files are saved to C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Corel VideoStudio\12.0\DMF_TEMP structure and ultimately used to burn the disc.
Longshanks
You are having so many problems that i think you have to admit it may be just a compatibility problem with Windows 7
We do not know the content of your projects, nor the properties of your rendered Mpeg2.
Can you run a test.
Start a new project
Add the contents of the library, using the samples provided by VS.
File Save as, give it a name
With the project open Share Create Disc--DVD
This will take you to the burner module the thumbnail/clip that shows will be a VSP, press "I" for information.
On this page there is a Jog Wheel--does that work, and are you able to use the controls under the preview screen. Can you see all details shown in the image below

Re: VS Pro X2 no likee Win 7
Hi Trevor
The problem is that the jog wheel doesn't appear in my Add Media Screen! I now see what you meant earlier when you said the Next button was disappearing when the prog was used in Win 7. Yes, this is indeed my experience. In my case the Next button appears on the left of the screen obliterating the jog wheel (with half the N missing!) The i equally fails to respond to provide "Media clip information" and right clicking and selecting media clip properties also falls on stony ground as they say in the good book. If I knew how to screen shot the Add Media screen I would but, hopefully, you get the gist.
When I select the file in Explorer and check properties it just tells me that it's a VSP file and is 97.0 Kb in size. However, that translates into 9Gb in tha Add Media Screen.
Is it worth me going back to Corel to see if they can advise as to how to get this prog to run with Win 7? I guess other have experienced this issue and have been given workarounds.
Thanks
