Audio missing alternate 1/2 seconds after editing
Has anyone found a solution to this phenomena.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs7JNiC_ZSs&feature=plcp
I have this problem in VS11, and was about to buy X5 thinking that the problem would be solved by now. But to be safe I thought that I better try the demo first, and now I find out it does the same thing.
2. Describe your problem:
The file is a TV tuner capture from one particular channel, and every time you edit it it produces correct video, but audio with alternate 1/2 seconds of silence.
3. What devices are involved and their mode of connection?:
Internal TV tuner cards (Compro and Leadtek)
4. The Version of program is being used e.g. VS11+ VS11.5+ VSX2+VSX3+VSX4+X5
5. Please list all patches/updates that have been installed relating to that version of the program.
VS11 updated to VS11.5 and X5 with no updates - it won't allow SP1 to install -
6. Details of the source files.
Note: to obtain all the properties of a file, right click on a video file in either the VS timeline or library window.
Where did they originate (camcorder, internet, TV card etc)
How did they get onto your hard drive (download, firewire, USB cable etc.)
Type of video e.g. MPEG2, DV, MTS, Mov, DivX, MPEG4 etc
Video data rate
Type of audio e.g. LPCM, AC3, MP3 etc
Audio data rate
7. Project Properties (Alt+Enter)
If you are rendering using Share > Create Video File > Same As Project Properties? What are the Project Properties?"
I have tried to render it with all the Project formats, and even with most of the custom settings, and it make no difference.
8. PAL or NTSC
PAL
9. Error Codes (if any): At what point did the Error occur, during the Editing stage, or after Share – Create Disc
None.
10. What are you trying to make, burn a Standard DVD, a HD Bluray or Avchd DVD, or Video for the internet.
Just a file on a hard disk - plenty of room avaiable.
I tried Vegas8 demo and it did that same thing, but it did ask me to install Quicktime, which fixed Vegas, but didn't fix my VS11.5 nor X5 demo.
I have been working on this for a week, and have tried all the suggestions on this forum, but no solution.
Older versions of Quicktime doesn't work.
VS11 without VS11.5 patch doesn't work.
Install VS11 on another PC doesn't work.
Importing doesn't work.

Re: Audio missing alternate 1/2 seconds after editing
Hi
For some reason the link to the image did not work, i have modified the link and used the attachment option at the bottom of the post to insert the image.
I do not use HD video so am a little unsure as to compliant settings when using 1440 frame size.
your video is also using Digital Dolby 5 channel maybe that has a bearing on the problem.
The Bit Rate is very, very high at 90000 kbps is probability above the industries standard.
I would imagine all programs having trouble reading this rate?
I notice that I can set a max of 60000kbps from the Make Movie Templates Manager
What hardware/software did you use to capture and did you manually set the capture properties?
What are you intending to make, a Bluray DVD or a Standard DVD
or a video for the internet, what you make should influence the capture properties
Try capturing to these settings:----
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps--or--24 bits, 1440 x 1080, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 20000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
What are you intending to make, a Bluray DVD or a Standard DVD
or a video for the internet, what you make should influence the capture properties

Re: Audio missing alternate 1/2 seconds after editing
I too was wondering about that 90000 kbps bitrate. Otherwise, the video would appear to be very similar to HDV format which is high def mpeg-2, Upper Field First and anamorphic 1440 x 1080. However, its bitrate is fixed at a constant 25000 kbps. So you could also try that.

Re: Audio missing alternate 1/2 seconds after editing
It's the only station that has the "5.1 sound" property on it, so it probably is the reason why - even though VS does 5.1 -.lata wrote:Hi

I think that is just a glitch with VS reading the properties, or else the files would be huge - they are only about 5GB per hour -.lata wrote: The Bit Rate is very, very high at 90000 kbps is probability above the industries standard.

Hard disk are cheap - 2TB for $115 -, so it's just a file stored on a drivelata wrote: What are you intending to make, a Bluray DVD or a Standard DVD

The capture is not adjustable, you always end up with the Mpeg in the picturelata wrote: Try capturing to these settings:----

Hi Old Grey
You say "It basically has to be high quality, preferably under 3.5GB per hour"
Well your video shows as over 2 hours long, that would require a bit rate of approx 4000kbps to fit to a standard DVD at 4.3 Gb that would be similar to VHS quality
(6000kbps would probably give 3.5 Gb per hour)
--------------------------
There is a program called MediaInfo http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
Can you try this to read your video files details, I have not used this program that much but know that many members do.
At least it should confirm the properties of your video file.

Re: Audio missing alternate 1/2 seconds after editing
I might not have mentioned it but that is the raw capture, so the end edit ends up smaller - I usually use 7000 - 8000kbs for HD TV -. Actually file size isn't that important, but clarity is - I don't like wearing glasses -, and the files are never shared by any means, DVD or otherwise, so they don't have to fit on any limited format.lata wrote:Hi Old Grey

This is the output from MI, if it helps.

If anyone has an email that can handle files at 8 meg in size, I can send a 6 sec sample - if someone wants to see if their VS can render it -.

I'm not too sure if I have set it up so that the general public can get it, or just 4shared users, but here is the file zipped on 4shared -
Sample.zip
http://www.4shared.com/zip/SXm_BDU-/Sample.html
Here is a 10 sec clip not zipped, but I'm not sure if the format was changed to host it.

Re: Audio missing alternate 1/2 seconds after editing
Old Grey,
Do you have the K-Lite Codec Pack or FFDShow installed on your computer. If you do, uninstall them and reboot if requested. See if that makes any difference.
With the K-Lite Codec Pack installed on my machine, sometimes 5 channel Dolby plays and sometimes it doesn't, but it's not like your problem of 1/2 seconds alternating audio after editing.
I do have the AC3Filter installed. http://ac3filter.net/

My editing PC hasn't got any codec pack, but it does have Pot Player. PP plays everything, but I'm not sure what it uses to play them, so I might unistall it to see what happens.

Re: Audio missing alternate 1/2 seconds after editing
Hi Steven
Now I fully understand the problem, unfortunately Video Studio does not read the file correctly, it is totally confused.
The good news is that i have managed to create a good file using Super.
Using that in Video Studio allows you to render to another format and keep the audio as ok.
I do not know if there is a problem with audio Lip Sync as the sound is over-layed. You are not watching peoples lips.
Ok What I found
Go to Preferences and change the background colour to anything but black.
Also tick the option to Show Messages when inserting first Video
Start a new project and add "sample.mpg"
A window shows prompting you to match the project properties
Choose details to view the video files properties, interestingly i see :-
MPEG files
24 bits, 1440 x 1080, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(MPEG-2), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 24464 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
Completely different to the other properties we have seen. (right click clip and select properties )
Selecting OK and we would expect VS to change the project settings, not so, in fact the aspect reverts to 4:3, notice the coloured bars, check project properties Alt + Enter, edit and change back to 16:9
I have not been able to use Video Studio to render these samples without audio problems.
Using Super ---- I have managed to convert to HD video which works ok in Video Studio.
I will do a few more tests and upload the good file to 4 Shared, you should be able to insert to VS to view the properties, which you should be able to duplicate using Super.
You should be able to convert without the audio problem.

Re: Audio missing alternate 1/2 seconds after editing
If you have VideoRedo, you can open your file, then click "Add Selection" to add it to the scene list, then save as an "MPEG-2 Elementary Streams (.m2v)" file. That will separate the video from the audio and create a m2v and an ac3 file. The files are not "recodes." They are the original streams, just demuxed into separate files. It is very fast to do. Anyway, you can put those on the timeline, edit them, and share to a file without the distortion. Well, it worked on my machine.
If you can find a place to download TSMuxeR GUI, that will demux your file into separate files as well. That product has been discontinued, probably because nobody donated.

That's what I was afraid of.lata wrote:Hi Steven
Now I fully understand the problem, unfortunately Video Studio does not read the file correctly, it is totally confused.
The good news is that i have managed to create a good file using Super.
Using that in Video Studio allows you to render to another format and keep the audio as ok.
I do not know if there is a problem with audio Lip Sync as the sound is over-layed. You are not watching peoples lips.
I had a play with Super, and it seams very good, but to render those big files it takes half a day - especially when I only want a small portion of the total file -. I wanted to do it directly with VS to save time. Vegas can do it, but it's so slow because it can't do a simple fast "save same as first clip" like VS, so it's a pain.
