Hello,
I've been unable to resolve a problem encountered when I insert a "title" to overlay on the first 30 seconds of a corresponding video clip.
When played back, the subsequent portion of the remaining video clip past 30 seconds goes missing. However, on this "missing portion" the audio portion of the video clip is present while the video portion becomes solid black to the end of the clip. The same result happens when I burn it.
In the "PROJECT" playback mode both the title and the video play fine, as do both the video and title in the "CLIP" mode.
I would appreciate recommendations, including some obvious simple switch or setting I may have turned on/off....I am willing to appear foolish (even stupid)!
Thanks, Dave

Hi David
I am not exactly sure what you are doing, the description is probably easy to understand when you have the project in front of you.
How long is the video clip, the title runs for 30 seconds, the remainder is blacked out?
Can you give details of the video file you are using, right click the clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
Select the Title clip in the timeline, to the right of the preview screen is a digital clock, (edit Tab) this shows the length of the clip, i assume it is 30 seconds?
Start a new project ----- If you were to use the sample video from the library, apply the same title, make a copy by dragging it to the library.
Does this play ok.

Re: VS X2 - Inserting a title overlays the latter video clip
Hi lata,
Thanks for your thoughts. Appreciate your efforts.
I did start a new project and encountered the same problem of the video component going black after a title was inserted, regardless of where that title was located in the clip.
I've also performed the same procedure with the Corel test file. Everything works as it should.
I'm working with .AVI files from a new camera input source. So far the problem is isolated to these clips, but I haven't gone and back tested against other, older files from the previous camera.
Clip lengths vary, but all are under five minutes.
On a different, but related problem, of the nine files in total three won't import and generate an error message. That message is "unknown file format/not enough file memory or copyright protected".
I believe it's because the file setting was changed on the new input camera, in the midst of the nine recordings. That's still to be investigated.

Re: VS X2 - Inserting a title overlays the latter video clip
Hi Dave
There are some 800 different types of Avi, Avi is just a container holding the various video types.
It does sound like a codec issue, did the camera come with any software, installing this may install the Codec for the cameras files.
We need to know more information regarding the properties of the video file.
Right click a clip and select properties, what are they?
You can copy the window to the clipboard Alt+PrtSc, then paste to an image editor, save a jpeg and attach to your post, or type in the details.
There is a free program called MediaInfo that will display the details of video files
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
Tell us the make and model of the camera, someone may own a similar model?

Re: VS X2 - Inserting a title overlays the latter video clip
Problem resolved....both of them!!
I put all the .avi files through a video converter freeware, downloadable program called 'Any Video Converter' and converted them to DVD NTSC .mpg files. It's a great, simple tool with good user reviews from CNET.
VS then imported all 9 reformatted files properly and I was able to insert titles without any difficulties. I've just finished burning copies and have tested them.
Thank-you for your assistance. Hopefully, other users might have success in reformatting through 'Any Video Converter', or other such available options.
