art media options disappeared on x3 & x4?

Post by shazty »

hiya.. a bit of a newbie so bear with me...

i have x3 (and x4) and have been using the 'pastel' art media effect to create some artwork .. however when i have gone back to do another one there is now only the options:

Black Pencil
Brush Strokes
Charcoal
Coloured Chalk
Colored Pencil
Pencil

does anyone know why the other art media effects all disappeared (pastel, palette knife etc) and how i can get them back?

It sounds to me like the current workspace has been corrupted a little. It happens from time to time with PSP. It's why I always suggest that once you have the workspace how you like it, that you save out a copy of your workspace so that you can reload it later.

You have two options

1) Reset the workspace to factory defaults - (recommended just in case I'm right, because I could be wrong, as a corrupted workspace can cause issues later.)

You can do this by closing PSP then hold the shift key while double clicking on the icon. It should ask if you want to reset your workspace.

2) Open the customize dialog (View menu -> Customize) and from the commands tab find the tools list and drag the missing tools back into the toolbar.

Those 6 efects are found using the menu bar Effects--> Art Media Effects --> Black Pencil ..... Pencil.

The Pastel and Palette Knife , Oil Brush, Chalk, Crayon , Coloured Pencil, Marker, Smear and Art Eraser are found as the bottom tool in X3 and also in X4

or do you mean that tool is totally missing from the left hand side toolbar.

Hiya, thanks for your responses..

i have reset to original defaults and they are still missing..

the menu>effects>art media> only contains the options i mentioned in my first post (it used to include pastel/palette etc)

the left hand bar does indeed have the pastel tool but its only to draw in pastel rather than transform the whole image into pastel strokes (if you see what i mean)

I checked PSP X3, X4 and even X2 but when I go to Effects--> Art Media Effects, I can only see Black Pencil ..... Pencil, could be a plugin that added them there. Do you remember installing something before they appeared on EFFECTS menu?

Even back in PSP8 there were only the 6 effects under Art Media.
So it may as Abiel suggested be a plugin or even another program. So its not PSP malfunctioning.

In Effects, Art Media Effects are different to the Art Media tools that are in your Toolbar. The toolbar Art Media consists of Oil, Pastel, Palette knife, etc etc.

Effects Art Media Effects have black pencil, coloured pencil, pencil, etc etc.

It looks like you need to create a custom toolbar and add those options to it or drag them into one of the menus. The ones you mention are listed under the Effects and Tools catergories in the customize dialog.
