PSPX4 - A More Different Installation Error
I have searched these forums as well as Google, and while some post questions seem to get close, I haven’t found an answer to this problem:
Just received a boxed version of PaintShop Pro X4 Ultimate.
I click on Setup.exe from the CD and at 21% installation progress, this error window pops up:
“Setup.msi: This installation cannot be run by directly launching the MSI package. You must run setup.exe”
After clicking Finish and reading that the system was not modified, it says:
“Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.”
Needless to say this error results in the installation terminating at 21% and hence, no PSP for me.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. But, just so you know, I have already:
Disabled Antivirus
Turned Off Firewall
Changed the UAC Setting to ‘Never Notify’
Created Separate Admin User Account
Booted Into Safe Mode
‘Right Clicked’ setup.exe and chose ‘Run as administrator’
System specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
I3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs)
6144MB RAM
DirectX 11

Re: PSPX4 - A More Different Installation Error
Does the disc not automatically run and bring up an installation menu? I seem to recall that mine did -- the only difference being that my disc came as part of a matched set of Video Studio X4 and PSP X4 Ultimate... though I can't imagine they used a different disc in this matched set from the one sold as PSP Ultimate alone.

Hello Steve,
Why are you double-clicking on the the Setup.exe? Like what Ken Berry said.. all you need to do is to insert the disc in the drive and the installation should kick in. The only reason why you should have this problem is that the disc installer is damaged and needs to be replaced. To request a disc replacement, you can visit http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... ement-CD-s

Re: PSPX4 - A More Different Installation Error
Why not download a trial version and see if that will install and if successful then apply your serial number and register .
This would avoid any problem with your CD , clicking on setup etc.
You would have one self extracting executable file already on your computer and able to run straight away without having to wait for material to be read off the CD.

Re: PSPX4 - A More Different Installation Error
Hi to all
"Setup.msi: This installation cannot be run by directly launching the MSI package. You must run setup.exe"
This message appears when people either really use the msi file or when a system is corrupted and the setup process stops at that moment.
Please keep the order in the following list:
- missing administrative access = disable User Account Control http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/wind ... -on-or-off
- somebody is installing in compatibility mode = this is not required
- DVD drive is damaged = copy content of disc into folder on desktop and run the installation from the desktop folder instead of DVD drive
if it still doesn't work:
- Windows Installer is corrupted = repair it and have a closer look at your system, because this message shows that your system doesn't work properly.
I hope it helps.
I would generally recommend to contact Corel support because to help with installation errors is our job.

Yes, when the CD is first accessed it will autorun.
With subsequent tries I just went to D: and clicked setup.exe.
I also wanted to highlight, due to the error message, that I was not trying to “launch the MSI package directly”.

Re: PSPX4 - A More Different Installation Error
but if the disc autorun the first time - and presumably installed the programme - why are you trying to install it "subsequent" times ?

Re: PSPX4 - A More Different Installation Error
Update and Resolution:
I first followed Simone Corel UK’s advice, namely:
“if it still doesn't work:
- Windows Installer is corrupted = repair it and have a closer look at your system, because this message shows that your system doesn't work properly.”
I researched Windows 7 Windows Installer errors and found this site:
http://blog.tiensivu.com/aaron/archives ... kages.html
I followed this advice:
Start > Run then type regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\MSIserver\WOW64
Right click on WOW64, then select Modify
Set Value Data to 0 (mine was set at 1 so I changed it to 0) and Base should be Hexadecimal (I didn’t change anything for Base)
Close everything, reboot
After the change to the Registry I autoran the CD again. While it did -not- error out at 21% with the first message, it -did- error out with the “Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.” message.
To me this means the registry change fixed the MSI package error.
So I then installed a trial version (based on hartpaul’s suggestion) and the trial version loaded with no errors.
caveat: My boxed version serial number would not unlock the trial version.
Final Resolution:
Corel Chat Support directed me to a ftp link where I was able to download a version my boxed serial number would unlock.
Finally, I have a solid installation with no errors, fully unlocked and legal.
Thank you,
Certainly_Steve
