VS ProX 4 No sound in project form

When I insert a video to the timeline the only way I can have sound playback is to open the sound mixer. I had this happen once before and I reformatted my hard drive and re-installed everything and It worked fine for a while but now the problem is back. What is causing this to occur. Even when I insert a sample sound into the music track I get an error message when trying to play the clip.....Unable to play the file (16804:2:1)......and it won't play in project mode unless I use the sound mixer. HELP!!!!!

Are you simply opening the mixer, or are you changing something? (I suspect that another application on your computer is messing with your mixer settings, or with your sound driver.)

Does the mixer fix that problem? What format is the audio file?

I'm not changing anything.I used to be able to put a sound file (.wav) in the music or voice line and it would play in project or clip[ form. Now the only way to hear the file is to open the mixer.

There are many reason why this happens if you were able to hear or play audio before then you may want to reset the program to its default state.

I feel your pain. There are more than a couple sound issues with this program and the answer is they don't know. Good Luck
