Text Disappears When I Hit Apply Button

Why does this happen?

Also, can I add text of different fonts and colors in the same image?

1) On the tool options palette there should be a drop-down box labeled "Create As:" make sure this is set to vector and not Selection. Otherwise it's a glitch of some sort and possibly need more information.

2) To change fonts and colors in the same image you have two options.

You can highlight individual letters and words while editing the text and change the font values and color values just like you would expect from a regular text editor.

Or

You can either create multiple text boxes each with the color and font options you want. Obviously this isn't a great option.
