Hi, me again! Problem. Would like to update from Prox 3 to Prox5 - good update offer being offered on a pop up screen when opening. Occurred to me that I am using MovieFactory 7SE which loads in when installing Prox3. I do not have a disk for it. If I buy upgrade to Prox5, and it uninstalls Prox 3, does anyone know whether Movie Factory 7 (or higher) will be loaded in with '5'! I have looked on Amazon and Movie Factory seems to be unavailable at the moment. I fear a reinstall and being left without it! Does anyone know whether a burning prog is offered with Pro x 5 - and if so, is it satisfactory. Their last digital suite for this purpose was not good! Any advice appreciated.
Nick (Viddynick).

No you do not get MovieFactory with X5 - mainly because you do not need it.
It was only given away free by Corel with X3 after they admitted that the disc burning arrangement in X3 were a bit of a disaster - but in X4 and now X5 they have put the previous authoring and burning module back into X5 - this is very very similar to MovieFactory - so you no longer need it - which is why it is not supplied free anymore.
I have always found the module in all versions of VS except X3 to be very good with no problems and it integrates seamlessly with the editing section.

THANK YOU very much for responding to my query so promptly - very much appreciated. Is largely what I had worked out! - but was fearful of losing MF7SE! Not clear in the spec whether it contained
a suite for this! - not where I looked anyway. Thanks again - very helpful. Will proceed to buy 5 which is a good price until 31.7.12.
Cheers,
Nick.

Hi Nick
You can of course install X5 without un-installing X3.
many on the forum have several versions of Video Studio installed.
If you were to un-install X3 then DVD MF7E would also be removed as the free version requires that X3 be installed.
As Brian says its not a problem as the burner module used in X5 will do what you want.

Thanks for your response. Yes, was worried about the MFactory aspect but have found it is almost the same in X5. Did not uninstall X3 as being I got X5 as an upgrade, thought it might "integrate" into X3! - or at least need to share some registry files. There was no prompt to uninstall earlier version earlier. At the mo, X3 is still on my PC but presumably taking disk space. I have a disk for X3 but do not know whether Movie Factory is contained within the disk itself or whether it was loaded in as an update from the Corel site - it is not clear as I have never found the exe file for Movie Factory!? Does anyone know whether X3 and X5 are entirely separate entities, based on upgrade versions?
Sorry to be a pain again - this is Nick's wife who has the unenviable task of sorting all the technical side! I'm getting there - slowly! Thanks for your patience. I hope I can help someone on here one day!

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7SE
Hi Nick's wife
DVD Movie Factory 7 SE was an extra provided by Corel as an update, therefore a download and automatically installed.
I do not think they ever included it on the software disc. Updates came automatically through the program, although there was a file available for download from the Corel site.
When you install X5 as an update it would recognise X3 as being installed and continue to install, otherwise it would ask for the serial number of X3 before continuing the installation.
Don't loose the X3 details.
I have several versions of Video Studio installed, X3 shows as using approx 1.3 Gb.
X3 and X5 are separate programs so uninstalling X3 should not affect X5, however and there is always a but, the older versions of VS did share some common files, so un-installing earlier versions may affect the latest versions, easily cured by re-installing X5.
It would be wrong of me to say yes to totally separate, cos I just don’t know.

Re: DVD MovieFactory 7SE
Trevor,
Thanks for confirming what I had roughly worked out myself - me thinks we will keep X3 loaded for fear of commonly shared reg. files as discussed. Guess they will be launching a newer version shortly - otherwise would not have got X5 so cheap. Still, at least we have upgraded two versions!
Tomorrow is the big sort out - loading the library folders - will take opportunity to dump some material at the same time - always a nightmare though as soon as it's deleted we want it!
Only one other point - they advertised Cloud space when we purchased X5 but I can't find the access link? Will look deeper into this aspect tomorrow. Not too worried, as I back up to an external hard drive and just recently have utilised an online back up programme which is proving invaluable.
I ramble ...... as always, thanks very much for your prompt response and helpful comments. We both appreciate it very much.
