[Resolved] Audio not importing with the Video VSPx4

Post by StitchedPigeon »

I'm running VS Pro x4 and I'm trying to import a video that I got from a homemade DVD which was created from a VHS tape. When I import the file to VS, the video is fine, but it thinks there's no audio with it. If I play the file in iTunes, then it has audio.

The video file's specs are as follows:
  • Kind: MPEG-4 video file
  • Size: 324 MB
  • Channels: Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1
  • Encoded with: HandBrake 0.9.6
  • Video Dimensions: 634x480
  • Video Codec: H.264
What am I doing wrong?

It's possible that VS cannot utilise the codec used to encode the audio.
It seems to have changed from the dvd file, as dvds are mpeg2 video and could have either lpcm/mpeg2/ac3 audio.

Can you just import the video direct from the dvd?

Otherwise, if you did the handbrake conversion, I'd try converting again and using a different audio codec. If handbrake doesn't give you the choice, look at using another app to do it.

Hi StitchedPigeon

If you have a DVD, place it in your DVD/CD drive

Right click the timeline and select Import Digital Media, the following window should show the drive similar to 1.G:\VIDEO_TS
Select the file Video_TS then start.
From the next window the videos shows as thumbnails select the Titles, put a tick in the small box top left. There may be a short delay.....
Choose a working folder to hold the new files.
Start Import.

The files will be Mpeg2 types as mentioned by Graham

Thank you both. I guess I simply didn't realize that I could import from a DVD using VS. Will the mpegs be saved to my computer?

Hi

The video files will be saved to your working folder as mpeg2 types, i recommend you create a new folder for these files.
A thumbnail / clip will be placed in the timeline.

The properties of the files will be unchanged, as original.
